Recently, Scarlett Johansson had a chat with Gwyneth Paltrow on her Goop podcast. The actress talked about why her marriage with Colin Jost is successful despite having two failed previous marriages with Ryan Reynolds and Romain Dauriac. When Gwyneth Paltrow asked her what she learned being with Colin Jost, the Black Widow actress stated that she was unsure of what she required from her partner, and explained that her other half must be compassionate but she did not know about the other “fundamental characteristic that has to be there.”
“I didn’t know what I wanted or needed from somebody else. I never realized, ‘Oh, it’s really important for me, I need to be with a compassionate person. That’s a fundamental characteristic that has to be there.’”
The Lost in Translation actress continued that understanding the “fundamental things” are quite necessary so that one can ensure having a long-term relationship with their other half. Noticing those fundamental qualities in Colin Jost helped her in having a successful married life with the Saturday Night Live host.
“And I think that understanding what those fundamental things are that you need in a partner is a must, I think — for longevity, anyway. I think identifying those things was a game-changer for me.”
The Marriage Story actress concluded by acknowledging how marrying Colin Jost was a “life lesson” for her and after being with him, she “was finally able to step back and actually respect myself enough to know what those fundamental things were.”

Scarlett Johansson Talks About Her First Marriage
The Avengers: Endgame actress told the host of the Goop podcast that she has no hard feelings for Ryan Reynolds despite having a failed marriage. Johansson reminded Gwyneth Paltrow that she was married thrice. When Paltrow said,
“Oh, that’s right, because I forgot that you were married to Ryan Reynolds! Goals!”
The Sing actress giggled and acknowledged that their marriage duration was short but they were together when she was shooting for Iron Man 2.
“Yes. We weren’t married very long, but we were when I first met you, for ‘Iron Man [2]’ or whatever.”
Paltrow then went on to say, “We love a good Ryan Reynolds in our house.” To which Johansson agreed, saying, “He’s a good guy.”
Johansson and Reynolds were married from 2008 to 2011. Their marriage attracted heavy media attention due to their popularity in the movie industry. But the couple mostly kept their relationship private, making seldom appearances together as a couple. However, despite their successful careers in the movie industry, they failed to have a successful marriage, as they filed for their divorce in 2010, eventually parting ways in 2011.
