The previous week’s Jujutsu Kaisen season 2, episode 17, garnered a lot of attention from the audiences, and everyone was singing praises of it. This is quite impressive since the animators at MAPPA recently opened up about their terrible work conditions. Tight production schedules with little to zero support for their work.
But apparently, the episode that was released was only able to deliver 30% of the animators’ intended vision. Rumors regarding the toxic work culture at MAPPA only became more prominent after the recent episode was released. The situation got so bad that there were rumors of production having halted in between. We also got a delayed preview for the episode, which was enough to hint at the entire ordeal.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 17 was only 30% finished when it aired
The update was posted on the X (Formerly Twitter) account of animation director and corrector NobiliRoccia. They prefaced the recent episode by saying, “JJK S2 episode 17 was only 30% complete as animators struggled to meet deadlines,” which left fans puzzled and dejected.
“Just a heads up, my tweet was deleted because people were misinterpretating it. In hindsight, I shouldn’t have used a number,” the animator shared. “People focused on dumb numbers instead of what actually mattered. I never correlated that number to a dumb “completition” checkpoint, but to the vision.”
The user is elaborating on the deleted post at the moment. Their message was taken at face value even though it wasn’t meant on a literal note. What the animator was actually trying to convey was that the overall vision for episode 17 was barely met due to the staff’s deadlines.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Episode 17 was held in high regard by the fans
Fans were quite astonished at the revelation that the animator made. Audiences already believed that Jujutsu Kaisen season 2, episode 17, was one of the best animated episodes of the year. However, upon learning that it wasn’t complete, it was stunning. Fans were at a loss for words and appreciated the animators for their hard work.
Several people believed that they were better off without knowing this as spectators of the show. They said that after learning that it could have been 70% better, they were left hoping to witness the episode in its intended final form.
However, the explanation from the animator was quite helpful as it helped in clarifying several questions. The recent episode is already being hailed as a contender for the Episode of the Year. Considering the terrible situation at MAPPA, fans couldn’t help but imagine what could’ve been done with a better production schedule. It seems animators wanted to take the visuals up several notches, but their vision wasn’t doable under the deadline.
