In the film industry so far, the iconic action heroes have been predominantly male, that was until the advent of female-led action films and franchises came into the spotlight. And on the forefront of the revolution was actress Kate Beckinsale portraying the lead role of Selene in the iconic Underworld franchise.

Being one of the biggest and most successful dark and gritty action franchises in history was something that was made possible by the actress and her bada*s persona as the lead star. But even though the franchise is still loved and revered by the fans of the horror and action genre alike, there may not be more to the story in the future, as stated by the actress herself.

When we think about action stars in the film industry, our thoughts naturally gravitate toward stars like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone. But in the early 2000s, that script was flipped when people saw actress Kate Beckinsale don the dark bodysuit and wield dangerous weapons in the monster-filled action franchise Underworld.

As the series progressed, the success of the films through box office numbers grew exponentially, even when it had mostly negative critical reviews. But it seems like we have already seen the last of what it had to offer in the past.

In a past interview with Yahoo! Entertainment, the Pearl Harbor star talked about her career and how most of it was given to the iconic franchise. Despite grossing a collective box office number of $540+ Million from a combined budget of $207 Million, Beckinsale says that she doesn’t feel there’s a sequel coming in the future.

After the release of the last film titled Underworld: Blood Wars in 2016, the actress suspected that her days as the lethal vampiress had come to an end. She said:

“I never felt there’s a sequel coming, ever. So I feel exactly the same as I always do, that Underworld is in the past, I’ve felt that way since [after] the first one. I suppose I still could. I highly doubt I would do another one. I feel like I’ve played that character a lot of times, so I highly doubt I would do that. But again I’ve been saying that since the first one. So, I don’t trust myself.”

As stated above, while she believes that there won’t be any more films from the franchise coming anytime soon, there’s a possibility of something cooking in the background.

The franchise follows the adventures of a female vampire named Selene, who was orphaned at birth due to the ongoing age-old war between her race and their nemesis the Lycans, a race of werewolves.

Throughout the franchise, we see the young and beautiful yet equally ruthless bada*s vampiress fight for her ultimate goal to stop this ongoing war and bring peace so that no one else has to suffer the same fate she did.
