Despite speaking out about the decades-old affair, Fisher refused to share any details about Ford’s personal life, trying to honor his desire for privacy in his personal life. Carrie Fisher Did Not Want to Expose Harrison Ford’s Secrets Despite Years-Old Affair
Carrie Fisher shot to superstardom with her performance as Princess Leia in 1977’s Star Wars, featuring alongside actor Harrison Ford. Years later, Fisher would confess to having a brief affair with Ford during the making of the film, sharing details about it in her 2016 memoir The Princess Diarist.
While promoting the book, Fisher sat down for a detailed conversation with The Guardian, where she was asked whether Ford was aware that their private romance would be brought into public light. In response, Fisher said:
I called him and said I’m going to send it to you, and I did and I never heard from him.
Fisher added that she had sent Ford the manuscript for the memoir and had offered to remove any parts that he found were an invasion of his privacy. She continued:
I don’t think he wants anything known about his life.
At the same time, Fisher stated that Ford was an extremely private person and details of his personal life being discussed publically would likely embarrass him. The actress admitted that she did not want to embarrass Ford in any way and refrained from discussing the affair further.
When Fisher’s memoir was published in 2016, Ford was married to actress Calista Flockhart. During the time of their affair, Ford was married to his first wife Mary Marquardt. As a result, it is understandable that Fisher did not want to cause trouble in Ford’s personal life by revealing secrets about their affair from decades ago.
Harrison Ford Admitted to Feeling Strange After Carrie Fisher Revealed Their Affair
Fisher sadly passed away in December 2016, roughly five weeks after the publication of her memoir. For the most part, Harrison Ford remained publically silent about Fisher revealing their affair in her book. However, Ford spoke about Fisher’s memoir in an interview with GQ.
The Han Solo actor admitted that he felt strange that his former co-star spoke about the affair publically. Ford stated that he knew of Fisher’s memoir containing details of their affair to some degree but he refused to react to the content in the wake of Fisher’s passing.
Oh, I don’t know. I don’t know. You know, with Carrie’s untimely passing, I don’t really feel that it’s a subject that I want to discuss.
Ford made the above statement, reiterating his desire for privacy regarding his personal life and relationships.
The Indiana Jones actor admitted that he had not read Fisher’s memoir at that point. Ford also refused to comment on whether he would have preferred his affair with Fisher had remained private. From Fisher and Ford’s words, it is evident that the former was aware of the latter’s need for privacy and tried her best to honor it. The duo last shared screen in 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
