While promoting the final season, Filoni was asked about the future of the Clone Wars corner of the universe. At the time, Filoni shared his experience of working on the animated series and also revealed why he did not wish to revive it again in the future. Filoni made a compelling argument for the series to conclude and despite fans feeling otherwise it makes complete sense.
Dave Filoni Has a Very Good Reason For Not Reviving Star Wars: The Clone Wars
Star Wars: The Clone Wars is one of the most fan-favorite entries in the galaxy far, far away, as franchise spearhead George Lucas created it. It initially ran from 2008 to 2014, with Dave Filoni serving as the primary showrunner for the animated series.

After its initial cancellation, the series was revived for a seventh and final season, which aired in 2020. Ahead of the final season’s debut, Filoni did a brief interview with IGN, reflecting upon his journey with the series.
Filoni expressed gratitude for getting the opportunity to conclude the series as he had envisioned. He said:
I think it feels proper and fitting I put a lot of thought into the end.
Filoni added that he had put everything he learned from Lucas and Jon Favreau into crafting the final season, making it a fitting conclusion to the Clone Wars era. Filoni further explained that making the series was one of the fondest experiences of his life.
The showrunner stated that he enjoyed working with the creative team that brought the series to life. However, since most of the key people behind the series had moved on to other projects, it makes sense that Filoni did not wish to revive The Clone Wars without their involvement.
Dave Filoni Stated That The Clone Wars Might Be Over But the Characters Have More Stories to Tell
While Filoni’s comment about not wanting to continue the series beyond season 7 makes sense, it might be heartbreaking for some fans who love characters such as Ahsoka as well as the new perspective the series provided on Anakin.

Despite showing no interest in continuing or reviving the series in the future, Filoni admitted that the journeys of the fan-favorite characters would not end with the animated series. He added that there were more stories to be told with these characters.
I’m sure that there are more stories. I don’t know if I’d call them Clone Wars stories but I think there are things in the vein of Clone Wars and animation that we’re always going to be doing.
Filoni made the above statement, expressing his desire to see more of the characters from the Clone Wars era in future Star Wars projects.
Filoni would later stay true to his comments with several popular characters from the animated series, including Ahsoka, making the jump to live-action projects in the recent past. Moreover, it was recently reported that Lucasfilm animation was working on a new animated series, which might revisit the Clone Wars era or at least the characters in some form.
