With Star Trek: Picard, fans found themselves with Sir Patrick Stewart once again as he reprised the role of Captain Jean-Luc Picard. However, a project that was highly awaited by Star Trek fans… might not happen after all.

The Star Trek Franchise Will Allegedly Have No Legacy!

In the 1987 series Star Trek: The Next Generation, Brent Spiner portrayed the role of the android called Data and has reprised his role ever since. With millions of people loving his iconic role, Spiner has become an icon of the Star Trek franchise alongside Patrick Stewart.

After Picard aired its finale episode with season 3, fans demanded that a spin-off show about the various characters in Picard was necessary. A campaign was raised and the project was titled Star Trek: Legacy. The campaign even garnered 60,000 signatures and captured the attention of Paramount.

From promises to validations, millions of fans are awaiting a response from the higher-ups at Paramount and the Star Trek franchise. Brent Spiner, however, may have some bad news for the people.

In an interview with TrekMovie, Spiner, who portrays the role of Data, revealed that he wouldn’t want to answer any questions about Star Trek: Legacy.

I really don’t even want to weigh in on it. It’s hypothetical at the moment. I’d be happy to another ER if they want to do it [laughs]. I just like to work. Certainly, if they came to me and I wasn’t doing something else, I’d love to do it.

But, this doesn’t necessarily mean that the series will never see the light of day. There have been various reports, rumors, and, speculations about Star Trek: Legacy.

One of these theories suggests that the series is happening but Brent Spiner may not be reprising his role as Data in the show. Most of the reports have been on the positive side but Spiner’s words may affect the perception of fans.

Star Trek: Legacy is Happening… Probably!

There is no clear answer as of now since the best that reports indicate is that the series might be and might not be happening at the same time. Unless we receive any confirmation, the series is both dead and alive at the same time (sounds similar, right?).

In March 2024, a report by ScreenRant talked about why there were no confirmations about the upcoming project. The report states that there was no promise that Star Trek: Legacy would be a series.

Instead, there have been rumors that Star Trek: Legacy will be a telefilm. This contradicts what fans had been originally hoping for (which was a series like Picard).

A majority of the people agree that it is better to have a Star Trek: Legacy movie than to not have it at all. As of now, the news hasn’t been confirmed so fans could be in for a surprise if the project gets greenlit.
