In most instances, the favorite character of a mangaka is his protagonist whom he makes with extreme focus and affection. But this is not the case with Hajime Isayama the creator of one of the biggest manga and anime series Attack on Titan. During an interview to commemorate the launch of K Manga, one of the topics posed to Attack on Titan Mangaka Hajime Isayama was who his favorite character was. Isayama initially said Jean Kirstein, but after a few seconds of thought, he altered his answer to Reiner.
One of the most shocking moments of Attack on Titan was Reiner and Bertholdt’s unveiling as the Armoured Titan and Colossal Titan, respectively. And Isayama had wavered between Jean and Reiner in recent years, but it looks like he has landed on Reiner.
What are Hajime Isayama’s thoughts about Reiner?
Readers all over the world have shown incredible support for the series. Set in a world where humanity has been locked behind walls to protect them from massive man-eating humanoid giants known as Titans, the plot follows Eren Yeager, who pledges to battle the Titans and free humanity after witnessing his mother die at the hands of one. Isayama’s work has surely made an impact in the anime world and is gaining more and more fame as the story progresses. In an interview with K-Manga, Isayama was asked who was his favorite character that he loved to draw. He replied:
“I’d have to say, Jean. No, it’s Reiner. He’s someone I put a lot of thought into creating. He turned out completely different from what I expected. I enjoyed drawing him.”
The rapid rise of Reiner Braun throughout the history of Attack on Titan astounded even the creator. He was deputy commander of the Warriors Department, was born and nurtured in the Liberio Internment Zone with his mother, entered the Eldian Cadet Department, and was elected by the Marley Army to inherit authority of the Armoured Titan at the age of eleven.
