According to reports, Adele was accused of transphobia for declaring her love for womanhood, at a gender-neutral awards show. Making the remarks at Brit Awards 2022, the singer made a whole lot of buzz and turned into a controversial star, after people were quick to accuse her of transphobia.

JK Rowling Accused of Transphobia Following Comments

For years, the Harry Potter author JK Rowling has been facing accusations and criticism for being allegedly transphobic. It all started after she retweeted an op-ed piece in 2020, about “people who menstruate.” Thereafter, her tweet faced intense backlash, despite her support towards the trans community.

I respect every trans person’s right to live any way that feels authentic and comfortable to them. I’d march with you if you were discriminated against on the basis of being trans. At the same time, my life has been shaped by being female. I do not believe it’s hateful to say so.”

Following that tweet, as JK Rowling faced criticism and backlash for her unfiltered remarks, the author then shared a lengthy post on her website and the link to that on her X account, with the caption “TERF Wars”. That’s when things started getting messy as Rowling deliberately involved herself in a controversial and perilous zone.

This repeated action on X led JK Rowling to turn into a controversial figure from the fan-favorite author of the Wizarding World. But surprisingly, she wasn’t the only celebrity who got cornered for expressing herself, even Adele joined Rowling.

Adele’s Love for Womanhood Allegedly Got her Labeled Transphobic

In 2022, during the Brit Awards which was declared a gender-neutral show, Adele made a remark similar to JK Rowling about womanhood, which landed her on the same dangerous grounds as the author. Walking the red carpet of the show, the “Queen of the BRITS” took home the Artist of the Year, which was a newly created category, previously known as Best Male and Best Female Artist Award.

I understand why the name of this award has changed but I really love being a woman and being a female artist. I do! I’m really proud of us, I really, really am.”

Making the remark via Page Six, as she took home the award, Adele simply expressed her love for womanhood. However, her comments quickly made it to social media where netizens were divided over the intentions of her remarks, after a now-deleted post from @OhHeyJacob called her TERF. Thereafter, people were quick to accuse her of transphobia, for simply declaring her love for womanhood at a gender-neutral show. Meanwhile, others were trying hard to stand beside the singer.

A few netizens blindly followed the X account criticizing Adele, and branding her TERF, while claiming that they wouldn’t be spending a cent on her show. Others boldly defended and begged for people to understand her statement’s intention. Few even claimed that the whole controversy is a perfect example of weaponized transphobia. With majority of people being on her side, the singer gracefully rose to her popularity, despite the controversies and getting branded transphobic for the most absurd reason.
