But the Suddenly Susan star once claimed that Sandra Bullock was the only celebrity who was off-limits to her.

Griffin’s humor is known to be bawdy, biting, abrasive, and self-deprecating and is often aimed at mocking celebrity culture. She may not have been the biggest television star, but she certainly ruled the headlines for a long time.

Kathy Griffin Won’t ‘Make Fun of’ Sandra Bullock

The 62-year-old comedian, Kathy Griffin has made fun of everyone in show business- from Sharon Stone to Oprah Winfrey. But she has previously admitted that Sandra Bullock, an American actress, and producer, is off limits from her list of targets. 

In 2010, the comedian praised Bullock’s 2010 MTV Movie Awards speech, in which she urged viewers to “go back to making fun of [her].” Meanwhile, she told Us Magazine that The Lost City actress has experienced a lot of drama in her personal life, so:

“I really would not make fun of her [Sandra Bullock]. I love when she said that comedians could make fun of her again. I’m going to send her a muffin basket! She seems to have a sense of humour, but if I wanted to, she said I could! I thought she was talking to me through the TV.”

Griffin, who played Vicki Groener, a co-worker to Brooke Shields on the NBC sitcom Suddenly Susan from 1996 to 2000, added that Bullock is the exception from her target list. She appreciated the actress’ positive and happy nature.

“Happy people and positivity in general just make me angry. It makes me want to vomit! I believe in negativity and darkness.”

Nevertheless, she has been involved in a fair number of controversies throughout her lengthy career.

When Secret Service Investigated Kathy Griffin

The comedian-actress, Kathy Griffin received criticism primarily in 2017 for posing with a mask depicting the severed head of the former American president. She once revealed in an interview with The New York Times that the effects of her actions went beyond the “cancel culture”:

“I wasn’t canceled. I was erased… I honestly never had a desire to make enemies. But I keep making enemies.”

The former cast member of Suddenly Susan also alleged that she was barred from the industry because she was a “middle-aged woman” without a “high-profile agency, studio, or network.”

In the course of the conversation, the comedian even voiced her displeasure at Andy Cohen taking her place on CNN’s New Year’s Eve Live.

In the midst of the ongoing drama, Griffin received a lung cancer diagnosis in 2021 and had surgery to have a portion of her lung removed.

A Look into Kathy Griffin’s ‘Trump controversy’

In 2017, Kathy Griffin became the subject of controversy after collaborating with photographer, Tyler Shields on a Halloween photo shoot that featured a Donald Trump mask.

In the picture, the comedian can be seen posing with a replica of the former president’s head that is covered in ketchup that looks like blood. The image was immediately reported on social media and received harsh criticism from both Democrats and Republicans.

Griffin reportedly received a call from the Secret Service in response to the photo shoot. 

The Independent claimed that under federal law, making threats “knowingly and willfully” against an elected president or vice president is a class E felony.

According to attorney Lisa Bloom, Griffin’s actions only demonstrated that individuals risk “lose their job” if they “criticize the President.”

Meanwhile, Griffins “should be ashamed of herself,” said Donald Trump after acknowledging the predicament.

During a press conference, the host of Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List apologized for her behavior and acknowledged that she “crossed the line.” The actress, however, had to deal with severe repercussions as a result of her contentious behavior.
