The actor opened up about leaving his famous series, Better Call Saul when his creator, Vince Gilligan initially planned to kill a guest co-star on the show. The guest was none other than Carol Burnett.

The 60-year-old actor, Bob Odenkirk unveiled about saving Carol Burnett’s life on-screen when she joined him in the final season of Better Call Saul. 

The actor during Carol Burnett: 90 Years of Laughter + Love on NBC Wednesday night opened up about saving her character as he shared that the show creator, Vince Gilligan was ready to say adios to Marion.

He claimed that they rewrite the scene where the actress’ character’s life was in danger as it was previously written differently with Gilligan’s vision.

He addressed the audience stating,

 “Carol, there’s something that you should know.” 

He continued,

“Vince wanted my character to kill you in that scene. Look at him, he’s shaking his head. His exact words to me were, ‘Saul ends up killing Carol Burnett.’ And if I remember correctly, he didn’t say, ‘Kill Carol’s character,’ he said, ‘Kill Carol Burnett.’ But I refused, and I told him I’d walk.”

The actor was even ready to leave the show to protect Burnett’s character from getting killed off on-screen.

The Little Women actor continued to share that he was even ready to put his career at risk for her. It was because her persona is too influential that it would have affected him had he decided to go along with what the creator initially wanted.

“Carol, I was willing to risk my career and never working in this town again. Because I didn’t want little children who watched our show — and I hope many of them did — to see me on the street and say, ‘Mommy, that’s the man who killed Carol Burnett.'”

After his confession, he also mentioned,

“That’s all I wanted to say. That I’m your real friend and Vince is not. And one more thing, Vince and I, and everybody on our show, we think you’re the greatest.”

Meanwhile, in an interview with Vulture, the comedy icon shared that she had long known the creator who wrote the Marion character, especially for her when she mentioned how much she loved the Breaking Bad franchise.
