The actor diagnosed himself with Autism

Legendary prime-time series star Jerry Seinfeld got entangled in a controversy due to an interview with NBC News. In the interview, the comedian said that he was on the spectrum of Autism. Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is defined as a developmental disability that is caused due to certain differences in the brain of a person. People suffering from ASD struggle with social communication, interaction, and repetitive behaviors or interests.

Seinfeld said in the interview,

“I think on a very drawn-out scale, I think I’m on the spectrum,” he told Brian Williams. “Basic social engagement is really a struggle.”

His comments hurt the sentiments of parents of autistic children, who slammed the comedian. As per The Washington Post, they called the comedian’s comments a slap in the face. Seinfeld sensibly took back his remarks in an interview with Access Hollywood.

“I don’t have autism. I’m not on the spectrum,” he told Billy Bush (via Us Weekly.) “I just was watching this play about it and thought, ‘Why am I relating to it?’ I related to it on some level. That’s all I was saying.”

The comedian mostly works clean, however, he’s gotten himself into trouble on several occasions because he freely shares his opinions.

According to reports by People, Seinfeld spotted his former girlfriend, Shoshanna Lonstein Gruss at Central Park and asked for her number. She was only 17 years old at the time. Both of them claimed that their romance didn’t officially begin until she was 18, however, many fans of the comedian were shocked by this relationship. Even to date, many people feel it was inappropriate as he was 38 at that time. The duo was together for about 4 years but ended things as the actor was working and she was busy with her studies at university.
