David Ayer’s version of Joker was more than what we saw

Before Morbius, Jared Leto‘s reputation faced significant damage due to his role as Joker in Suicide Squad. His version of Joker stood out as a major odd addition to the plethora of great talents we have seen before in the role of the Clown Prince of Crime. It was later revealed that it was the studio who messed up the character.

David Ayer has repeatedly stated that Joker’s character received countless alterations in the post-production and the reshoots. He shot several iconic sequences and moments for the characters that never made it to the big screens. The 55-year-old director took to his X account to reveal that his Joker was more intense and had a proper story arc rather than being silly.

Later in another tweet, when Ayer was asked about his involvement in the reshoots, he revealed that he reshot the scenes and no one else was involved. He stated that he takes his obligations seriously no matter how much painful the process is.

Following the release of the Snyder Cut, the DC fans were highly hopeful that the studio would be forced to release the director’s cut of the Margot Robbie movie as well. However, we didn’t receive any update about the movie to date. Yet it looks like David Ayer is confident enough that the studio will release the movie at some point in time.

It can’t be denied that a lot of time has passed and the DC slate has also gone through uncountable changes. Several fans have lost hope for the Ayer Cut to be released. But it looks like the director is still hopeful for the studio to release his version at some point in the future.

Some time ago also the director revealed that he has been in talks with the present DCU head James Gunn about the release of his cut of the 2016 film. Recently he held similar thoughts in an interview with Total Film as well- “I think so. I’m going to be hopeful.” He opened up that many people don’t want the project to come out but eventually, the truth always comes out”.

It will be undoubtedly a great feat for the fans if they are successful with the Ayer Cut as they did with the Snyder Cut. However, with the changing dynamics in the DC slate and the formation of a brand new empire under James Gunn and Peter Safran, the future of Ayer Cut will be an interesting topic to keep a watch on.
