The Stranger Things alum and the John Wick star have collaborated on multiple projects. Francis Ford Coppola’s 1992 movie, Bram Stoker’s Dracula, featured them as on-screen lovers. For the film, the two Hollywood stars had to participate in a scene where their characters get married. As it turns out, the marriage in question may have been genuine and not staged. Ryder and Reeves have their respective accounts on the situation. Let’s have a look.

In a conversation with Entertainment Weekly, in line with the theme of weddings, Winona Ryder dropped an insane bombshell. The actress revealed that the filming for the marriage scene in Bram Stoker’s Dracula may have entailed a genuine wedding. She was convinced that their on-screen nuptials technically resulted in an authentic union as a “real Romanian priest” was employed for the sequence. Following was her statement:

“We actually got married in Dracula. No, I swear to God, I think we’re married in real life. In that scene, Francis [Ford Coppola] used a real Romanian priest. We shot the master and he did the whole thing. So I think we’re married.”

Nobody could’ve anticipated Coppola’s $215.9 million film to have birthed a real-life marriage ceremony, not even Ryder’s co-star and partner-in-crime, Keanu Reeves. When the Girl, Interrupted star announced that the two had gone through the ceremony and exchanged their “I dos”, Reeves interjected, “We said yes?” To this, the actress had the following to claim:

“Don’t you remember that? It was on Valentine’s Day.”

Not knowing how to defend the assertion, Reeves confirmed, “Oh my gosh, we’re married.”

One thing is sure: the two stars’ situation sounds so movie-like that it’s truly ridiculous. Keanu Reeves, on a later occasion, addressed the marriage incident again. The actor seemed to be as amused by the revelation as we are.

The marriage between the two celebrities was brought up again in an interview with Esquire when the John Wick star sat down to address various rumors about him. When asked whether or not he was “technically married to Winona Ryder”, the actor had the following to say:

“We did a whole take of a marriage ceremony with real priests. Winona says we are. Coppola says we are. So, I guess we are married… under the eyes of God.”

Making an appearance on The Talk (via PEOPLE), Keanu Reeves also disclosed the title with which his Destination Wedding co-star playfully greets him:

“Once in a while, I will get a text: ‘Hello, husband’. I didn’t really believe her [Ryder], and then Francis Ford Coppola, the director of Dracula, contacted Winona and said publicly that, yeah, that really happened, the priest did a full ceremony, and Winona and I got married.”

The two performers’ longtime friendship adds to the intrigue of this unforeseen marriage, as they’ve opted to take it in stride and commit to the bit. Aside from Dracula, the two actors have shared the screen in A Scanner Darkly (2006), The Private Lives of Pippa Lee (2009), and Destination Wedding (2018).
