Spoiler Alert !!!
Spoiler warnings for House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 7 and George R.R. Martin's Fire & Blood

The war is looming over Westeros, and House of the Dragon Season 2 season finale episode preview just proved it will end in a bloodbath. As Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen finally finds dragonriders for Seasmoke, Vermithor, and Silverwing in the recently released episode, her army is also growing stronger.

With this knowledge, Prince Regent Aemond Targaryen and the Greens must gather everything they can to fortify their defenses. In the latest HBO preview, the one-eyed prince is seen speaking to his sibling, Queen Helaena, urging her to ride Dreamfyre to battle.

Will Helaena And Dreamfyre Take Part In The Targaryen Civil War?

In the season finale preview of House of the Dragon, Ewan Mitchell’s Aemond told Phia Saban’s Helaena: “Pretenders raise new riders against us. I need you to fly with Dreamfyre to battle.” This already seemed like reckless move from the Greens, but desperate times call for desperate measures.

After the Battle at Rook’s Rest, Sunfyre was still hanging on to dear life, leaving Vhagar and Tessarion to defend King’s Landing. The latter is yet to be formally introduced, as its rider, Daeron Targaryen, is yet to make his debut in the show. Dreamfyre is the only viable replacement for Sunfyre.

George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood explained that Helaena never rode her dragon during the war. She has ridden Dreamfyre in the past, but she expressed unwillingness to do it again in battle. Now, if Aemond is to persuade the queen to bring her dragon to war, this would be a major deviation from the source.

There is also no way they could bond Dreamfyre to a new rider, so the slender, pale blue she-dragon was left in the pit throughout the Dance of the Dragons. If the showrunner and the writers decide to bring Helaena to battle, it will alter her entire arc throughout the show.

The queen is not skilled in battle and what Aemond asks of her may bring her immediate death. In the novel, Helaena dies from throwing herself from a window of the Red Keep out of extreme grief. Her storyline has already been changed since the Blood and Cheese episode, so they might as well truly give her a different cause of death.

Fans Show Concern Over Aemond And Helaena’s Scene

Fans remember well enough how Game of Thrones ended on a disappointing note. The major shifts in the plot caused the story to falter, and with what’s currently going on in House of the Dragon, it might follow the same fate.

Netizens voiced their concerns over one significant scene in the season finale preview, and that is Aemond urging Helaena to ride Dreamfyre. Check out their tweets below:

Certain changes in screen adaptations can be necessary to condense the entire material and for creative purposes as well; however, it also takes one small change in plot to bring a series to its downfall.

House of the Dragon Season 2 is now streaming on HBO.
