Thierry Fremaux brushes off the controversy surrounding the actor

During an interview with Variety, Thierry Frémaux was asked about the controversial decision of opening the 2023’s event with Johnny Depp’s Jeanne du Barry. However, the director Thierry didn’t back away from taking a stand for the movie and the actor, as he went on to share his viewpoint regarding the situation. The director further refused to see the situation as controversial and explained his reasoning by stating,

“I don’t see Maiwenn’s film as a controversial choice at all, because if Johnny Depp had been banned from working it would have been different, but that’s not the case. We only know one thing, it’s the justice system and I think he won the legal case. But the movie isn’t about Johnny Depp.”

And with the movie inching toward its release, it is also being reported that the lead star too is excited about the ambitious project. It will be Depp’s first major appearance in a movie since 2018.
