“I think Hidetaka Miyazaki was full of s**t”: Copium or Legitimate Criticism? Some Elden Ring Fans Can’t Deal with 1 Aspect of Shadow of the Erdtree

It might be difficult to accept, but fans might need to close the book on their Elden Ring experience soon.

Elden Ring Shadow of the Erd Tree

SUMMARY

  • Many fans believe Elden Ring will get a new expansion in the future.
  • This is in direct contrast to Hidetaka Miyazaki’s statements that Shadow of the Erdtree is the only additional content planned for the game.
  • There are still many questions to be answered in Elden Ring, and a new expansion, as unlikely as it is, could help achieve that goal.

When Shadow of the Erdtree was announced for Elden Ring, many thought it was going to be the first of several expansions coming to the game. After all, Dark Souls 2 got three DLCs, so why not the biggest game released by the studio, right?

Unfortunately, these hopes were quashed fairly early on, with Hidetaka Miyazaki revealing Shadow of the Erdtree would be the only expansion for Elden Ring. This revelation disappointed quite a few fans, but some are not convinced that it truly is the end.

Much like ending the final episode of your favorite series, ending a FromSoftware title is a bittersweet experience. Thankfully, expansions serve to extend the experience, but that’s entirely dependent on how many the developers release.

Miyazaki had stated previously that Elden Ring would be getting only one major expansion and that the team had “no plans to add more content.” Given the size of the DLC, this can be taken at almost face value, as it took a good part of two years to develop and launch.

However, some fans are not convinced this is the case. Indeed, there are still several mysteries in Elden Ring that have yet to be answered. In classic FromSoftware fashion, the DLC leaves just enough room for people to continue to speculate, such as about the lack of Melina’s presence in the DLC and also the face of Godwyn at various locations in the land.

Still, not everyone believes FromSoftware will go back on their word and create more content.

Out of all the FromSoftware titles, only Sekiro and Demon’s Souls, both critically acclaimed hits, don’t have any expansions. However, these games were also self-contained and did not have the same number of mysteries and questions as this game! If there is even a slight chance we get a new DLC, it won’t be before 2026, which makes it seem even less likely.

The DLC has been a topic of discussion due to its difficulty, and the studio’s decision to enhance the effects of the Scadutree Blessings. Along with in-game mechanics, people are also finding out new questions to which they would like answers. One area of mystery is a better understanding of Miquella, a central figure in the DLC.

Public sentiment against Miquella has shifted wildly after the end of the DLC, and against Radahn as well. But there are still many aspects of both of their characters that are shrouded in mystery. Miyazaki is never direct with his narrative or even character development, but fans would like to know more about this controversial demigod.

The second character to be under scrutiny is that of Queen Marika. As the one who created Grace and also shattered the Elden Ring, Marika’s intentions are still not entirely clear to many fans, who wonder if she wished for the events in the game to happen and for the Tarnished to defeat all her children.
