English actor Alan Rickman was probably the only Harry Potter star who was really close to JK Rowling and knew almost all spoilers, beforehand. Holding the tiny details close to his heart, the actor never spilled the secrets, with either his co-stars or fans.
Getting spoilers as early as the first of the eight-movie saga, Alan Rickman took the Harry Potter secrets to his grave. The late actor surprisingly remained tight-lipped, just like his onscreen character. Unlike MCU stars Tom Holland and Mark Ruffalo, who are well known for dropping spoilers, Rickman never committed the mistake.
Alan Rickman Received Major Spoilers About Harry Potter
Playing one of the major characters from the Harry Potter franchise, Alan Rickman was the only actor who received spoilers directly from JK Rowling. Getting little details from as early as the first movie, it was claimed that the late actor apparently knew how the story ended, way ahead of others.
Willing to know the layers of Snape’s complex character in order to portray the character perfectly, Rickman received the information about Snape and Lily way ahead of Deathly Hallows Part 2. During the cast’s Return to Hogwarts (shared via ScreenRant), Daniel Radcliffe revealed how Rickman knew Snape’s backstory.
“He very early said to Jo, ‘I think I need to know’ and he never told anyone.”
Further, even JK Rowling revealed after Alan Rickman’s untimely demise, how she shared important details with the actor. Sharing a post via X, the author mentioned, “I told Alan what lies behind the word ‘always’.” Disclosing major spoilers about Snape’s backstory to Rickman, Rowling certainly put the franchise at risk. But the actor undoubtedly took the secrets to his grave.
Alan Rickman Remained Tight-Lipped Unlike Mark Ruffalo
Paying a touching tribute to Alan Rickman during their appearance on HBO’s Return to Hogwarts, Daniel Radcliffe and Gary Oldman confirmed how Alan Rickman was the only one who received spoilers. But just like his onscreen character, Rickman remained tight-lipped about the secrets.
Unwilling to put the entire franchise at risk by spilling the secrets, Alan Rickman took the spoilers to his grave. According to Radcliffe, as shared by ScreenRant, Rickman never shared the details even with director Chris Columbus, which although made it initially difficult for the director, eventually the crew got accustomed.
“He [Rickman] never told Chris [Columbus], he never told anyone. Chris would literally say to him, ‘why are you doing that like that?’ He was like, ‘I’ll tell you later.’”
Not many actors can do what Alan Rickman did with major Harry Potter secrets. Most actors fail to keep secrets under pressure and often spill the tea beforehand. Evidently, MCU actors Tom Holland and Mark Ruffalo are notoriously known for giving out spoilers. But certainly, unlike them, Rickman took the secrets to his grave.
