David Ayer is one of the most prominent directors in the movie industry, who has directed some immensely popular films that have given his career a massive. It was extremely beneficial as Ayer had never attended a film school. Though he started working in small films, he soon directed big films and got the opportunity to work in DC by directing Suicide Squad.

Even though his 2016 DC film was a significant hit at the box office in 2016, it got severely hammered by the critics as the film failed to blow them away, and it was a massive disappointment for Warner Bros. as the reviews were quite harsh despite being a commercial success. However, David Ayer is quite confident that his film will see the light in James Gunn’s DCU as he said himself in a recent interview.

David Ayer Is Optimistic About His Suicide Squad Cut in James Gunn’s DCU

Zack Snyder’s SnyderVerse started off strong with Man of Steel, which got the fans excited. However, the franchise soon became a laughing stock as all the films followed by the 2013 film were an utter failure at the box office. Needless to say, a critical failure as well. David Ayer’s Suicide Squad was no exception as the director had earlier expressed his disappointment as he stated on Twitter, “It was ripped to pieces – I can’t emphasize that enough.”

However, it looks like David Ayer’s vision was appreciated by James Gunn, the Co-CEO of DC Studios who was appointed earlier this year. During an exclusive preview of Total Film via Games Radar, the director stated he was optimistic about his Ayer’s cut, but he can’t give too many details as it might create a situation of unrest among certain people, who might stop his vision to see the light at the end of the day.

“I think so. I’m going to be hopeful. You know, there are a lot of people that are invested in certain narratives that don’t want it to see the light of day. So there’s an immense political headwind against it, because if that cut were made public, the cowardliness and the whole just general shittiness of how the film’s been treated, and how the actors have had this great work that they’d done taken away…”

That narrative blows up once people see the movie. But it’s coming. Something’s going to happen. Something’s going to be revealed. The truth always comes out. It always comes out.”

David Ayer’s comments got his fans excited as they went to social media to show their support for Ayer’s cut that might get released in the future.

Fans Support David Ayer’s Vision on Social Media

David Ayer’s vision was pulverized during the editing process, as the first 40 minutes of the film never made it into the final product. When the word got out that his vision was not appreciated by the executives at DC Studios, ardent DC fans went to X to show their support for the director and how they are optimistic that his Ayer’s cut should be released in the theatres.

Countless fans have tweeted for the re-release of the film, as the film was one of the best DC projects of the SnyderVerse.

Another fan believes that the original version would be better than the one released in theatres.

Another fan was pessimistic as they stated that DCEU would end in a few days’ time, as Aquaman 2 is going to release later this month, and Gunn might not want people to keep reminiscing about the SnyderVerse.

A fan states that it is possible to see Ayer’s cut in 2024 as there are no major DC projects expected to be released in the upcoming year.

Another fan states that Gunn’s version of the film was way better.

While there’s no guarantee of an Ayer’s cut, fans must not lose hope as James Gunn had said that there will be two universes in his DCU, one that would be part of an interconnected story, and the other that will be independent films. Hence, there can be a possibility that if the film is released it’ll be part of the latter group.
