Christopher Nolan Compares Robert Downey Jr. To Late Heath Ledger As Great Actors
When it comes to making films that outlast even the lifetimes of people from the present and the future, there is no doubt in anyone’s mind when legendary filmmaker Christopher Nolan is helming the project. But what a filmmaker of this caliber requires are equally talented and driven stars beside him to make his vision take the shape of reality. This is the reason why he keeps his eyes peeled for greatness amongst the actors he’s worked with in the past, and working in the present, and with the release of his latest work, he believes he has found yet another great actor.

With the completion and release of his latest project Oppenheimer to the audience from around the world, the director has shared some of his thoughts, and along with that, claimed that working with MCU legend Robert Downey Jr. has been one of the most rewarding experiences for him in his career. In a recent interview, the Dunkirk creator talked about just how similar he felt to working with Downey Jr. when he worked with the Late Heath Ledger for their then-upcoming film The Dark Knight, while also calling them some of the greatest actors of all time. He said:
“Your question reminds me of a conversation that I had with Heath Ledger many years ago when I was talking to him about taking on The Joker, and what he told me is that he needed to be hungry. He had taken time off and he needed to be hungry to act again, and he knew that about himself. And I’ve not had that conversation with Robert, but I think there’s something similar going on where he was in a place where he was ready to get his teeth into something, and I think the best actors need that. They sometimes need a fallow period to fall back in love with the craft, to need to get out there and express something.”
Apart from the stars mentioned above, he has also shown his respect and admiration for Cillian Murphy several times before, which is also visible to the public as he has worked with the Peaky Blinders star in 5 of his past projects, excluding the recent film.
