The Hulk is a Marvel superhero known for having many different versions of himself, each with a distinctive quality. It appears when Dr. Banner loses control, which is a recipe for disaster in any situation, and builds a fantastic framework for a complex and endearing character that viewers still adore. Well, the long-running debate between Edward Norton and Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk resurfaced as Joe Rogan started discussing it on his podcast.

The public praised the Zodiac actor for his portrayal when he made an appearance in The Avengers (2012), but they still kind of missed the veteran actor. Rogan has been outspoken about his opinions on the matter and once expressed Ruffalo’s preference for his portrayal of the Hulk over that of other actors.

Joe Rogan Doubted Mark Ruffalo’s MCU Future as ‘Hulk’

With Mark Ruffalo making subsequent appearances in the MCU, beginning with 2012’s The Avengers, the role of the green-hued superhero was recast from Edward Norton, who played it in The Incredible Hulk.

Ruffalo continues to make appearances in Marvel films, including a cameo in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law series (Disney+).

However, Joe Rogan, the host of a well-known podcast, is one of the countless Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) fans who does not appreciate everything that has been happening with the Hulk (his appearance in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law).

While allegedly starting the debate between Ruffalo and Norton, Joe Rogan appeared to support the former.

“I think there is gonna be a New Hulk. And then Mark Ruffalo is busy being a political activists or something it could take the rights to his face and put somebody else.”

Furthermore, during his podcast, Rogan criticized Marvel for making the green-hued superhero always enraged, saying:

Mark Ruffalo Discussed His MCU Future After She-Hulk: Attorney at Law

Mark Ruffalo discussed his potential return to the role of ‘Hulk’ in an interview with Variety. The actor claimed that each time Marvel Studios contacts him regarding a subsequent appearance as Bruce Banner, he is still taken aback.

He even acknowledged that he was essentially waiting for the replacement to step up, but he insisted that he would keep performing as long as Marvel and the fans continued to support him in the role. To quote Ruffalo:

“I don’t know! I’m always surprised that I’m still here. I mean, me and Ed Norton joke that the Hulk is like our generation’s Hamlet — we’re all going to get a shot at it. I keep waiting for the next version of it. I mean, I’ll probably do it as long as they’ll have me, if people are interested, and I can bring something that’s interesting to me to it, and interesting to the fans. But I have no idea.”

Having said that, the actor can not help but imagine making a movie about an older version of the character many years from now:

“I mean, you know, when you look at the comics, there’s some pretty grizzled, old versions of him. I’m like, OK, the 67-year-old Hulk, that would be interesting — if all of us are still here making movies and there’s a world that allows for us to do that anymore. With what we’re living in and heading towards, the future feels more precarious than any other time. So I don’t want to get too far ahead of myself. But I hope I’m still around to do it.”
