As actors constantly feel the tug and pull of the 007 race as names rise and drop on the Bond Odds, one Brit sits quietly in the corner, content with his roles in the industry. Charlie Cox, in all honesty, has a full plate and a schedule packed enough to rival even the great British spy’s world-saving missions. And yet, despite the role being the biggest honor any actor would sell their soul for, Cox has other plans in mind.
Charlie Cox Has No Plans To Audition For James Bond
Henry Cavill’s popularity in the Bond Odds rarely seems to diminish, even as time expands the widening chasm between the actor and the character. The 007 producers, Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson are desperate to find a new face and introduce a new era of Bond in the coming years. And Charlie Cox seems to agree with the legacy makers. In an interview with NME, the Treason actor claimed:
The honest truth is that I think there are better candidates out there than me. The Bond itch has been scratched a little bit for me with Treason but also particularly by Daredevil. Playing a superhero is not so different. I think they should do something different – and I think you know what I mean. It would be a really good time and opportunity to do that.
By “different”, Cox essentially implies a white male actor in his 40s which has been the trait of all Bond actors since Sean Connery first waltzed into the big screen as Bond. As for the “time and opportunity”, it is implied that Daniel Craig revolutionized the industry greatly by erasing the misogyny that plagued the franchise until his arrival, and so now, it falls on the producers to bring 007 fully into the 21st century, to all its faults and glories. Casting Cavill in the role then defeats the purpose of having an actor bring variation to the role as it would simply not work towards breaking the wheel that has been spinning since the 1960s.
Charlie Cox Comments On His Daredevil Return To MCU
The Daredevil actor would run to the Marvel sets right now if he could, but the WGA strikes are yet to be resolved, and the production of Daredevil: Born Again has been temporarily suspended until the strike comes to an end. The actor is set to return in his resurrected solo series as the anti-hero after the tragic and sudden cancellation of his Marvel x Netflix series in November 2018. As such, he is quite content with his current predicament despite complaining about the year-long shoot of Born Again and his age (40).

When faced with the newly resurrected series, however, Cox’s demands from the show are quite similar to his views about Bond. He doesn’t want a repetition of the past, but rather an expansion of the “things that really worked.” For Cox, that entails aiming for a more mature audience, reeling in the punches, and making the character a bit less pessimistic and brutal in general. She-Hulk demonstrated this version of the hero, which according to Charlie Cox was more “quick-witted and funny and charismatic and carefree at times.”
And despite the divisive reaction that it drew from the audience still reeling from the withdrawal of the Netflix version, the people in charge seem to believe this to be a better and more sustainable version of the hero in the longer run.
Daredevil: Born Again is slated for a 2024 premiere on Disney+.
