Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise’s film, Interview with the Vampire, had actress Kirsten Dunst playing the role of Claudia, a young girl-turned-vampire. In the film, Brad Pitt and Kirsten Dunst share a short kiss. Recently, though, the actress opened up about the kiss stating that it was disgusting and that she felt as if she was kissing her older brother. Yikes, that is not what you want your kiss to feel like! After her kiss with Brad Pitt, Kirsten Dunst waited for half a decade before kissing anyone else.

Interview with the Vampire (1994) was the first big acting break for Kirsten Dunst who went on to do films like Spider-Man, Jumanji, and Bring It On. She remembers a great deal about the time spent on the Neil Jordan-directed film, both good and bad.

While she obviously loved working with Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise, she didn’t like the fact that she had to kiss one of them for the film. In an interview with Vanity Fair, Dunst stated that kissing Pitt was like kissing an older brother. This was because, during the filming of Interview with the Vampire, Dunst was only eleven years old and Pitt was around the age of thirty. A lot of people, to this date, call this a bit problematic.

“At that point I was a little girl and he was like a brother to me. And it was very weird even though it was a peck. I was just very not into it. Other than that I was treated like a total princess on that set.”

An old interview unearthed by Entertainment Tonight saw Dunst as a twelve-year-old, talking about the kiss. She stated that she absolutely hated it stating, “Brad was like my older brother on the set…it was gross.” She reflected on her thoughts and added that she still agrees with little Dunst.

In another interview, this time with Bullett Magazine, Dunst stated that after her kiss with Pitt, it took her five years to kiss someone else.

“He had this long hair. He was just a hippie-ish cool dude. Everyone at the time was like, ‘You’re so lucky you kissed Brad Pitt.’ But I thought it was disgusting. I didn’t kiss anyone else until I was 16, I think. I was a late bloomer.”

Well, there you have it. Contrary to popular belief, kissing mega stars in front of a camera isn’t really all that. But then again, we cannot leave out the fact that there was a huge age gap between the two!

When the topic of discussion is iconic kisses of Hollywood, there’s no way you can exclude the upside-down, Spider-Man kiss between Dunst and Tobey Maguire. While a lot of people took it upon themselves to recreate the kiss with their significant others, Maguire and Dunst might not have had the best time during the scene.

Director Sam Raimi recalled that since the kiss took place in the rain, Maguire’s nostrils were getting filled up with water. He stated,

“I remember the water was falling down into his upside down nostrils, so he was kind of drowning. But it was a kissing scene. So he had to pretend like it was a pleasant, sweet moment for him, when in fact, he was semi-drowning.”

Maguire also backed this statement adding that he was gasping for air half the time.

“I couldn’t breathe and I was gasping for breath out of the corner of Kirsten’s mouth. Poor girl. I was giving her mouth to mouth rather than kissing her. But in the midst of that, I was sneaking some pleasure out of it.”

Well, it looks like everything is not what it seems. While the audience might collectively swoon over the onscreen romance, only the actors know what’s really going on behind the cameras!

You can rent/buy Interview with the Vampire on Prime Video and Spider-Man is available to stream on Disney+.
