Dwayne Johnson’s streak of successful or massive movies might drop because of an upcoming announcement. As of late, Disney has been remaking a lot of its old classics. These are especially being seen with the multiple live-action remakes that are coming into being. The actor is already one of the biggest names in Hollywood and this project might not sit well with his success as a talented actor.

The actor recently shared a piece of news about an upcoming movie that he is working toward. The fans seem far from pleased to hear the information. Johnson announced the live-action remake of Moana. Disney has been making remakes back to back and not all of them are being perceived that well. Hence, the actor’s announcement is also being taken rather negatively.

Dwayne Johnson Will Star In A Live-Action Remake Of Moana

Dwayne Johnson starred in 2016’s Moana as Maui alongside Auli’i Cravalho as the titular character. The movie was an immediate hit amongst children and adults, making it a go-to family movie. Disney’s animation has often managed to reach leaps worth of magic and mesmerize its audience, especially children. Moana was one movie that was heavily loved by everyone. Whether it was the story or the very concepts involved, the movie was a fan favorite.

“Moana, Grandma Tala, the music, Te Fiti, Pua the pig, the village, the beautiful powerful ocean,” the actor continued. “Heihei’s going to be in and of course Maui’s going to be in it too.”

A new reimagining of the movie is already in the works with the original cast returning. The live-action remake would have Johnson as well as Cravalho reprising their iconic roles and will work toward capturing the beauty and magic of Hawaii as they did in the animated version. While the making of this project is still in the early process, the fans are not happy with the announcement.

Fans Reject The Idea Of A Moana Remake

Ever since the success of Alice in Wonderland, Disney has been on a streak of releasing remakes of old classics. Some do exceptionally well like Lilly James’ Cinderella, while others, mostly a big chunk of them, crashed hard at the box office. Remakes like The Lion King, Pinocchio, and Mulan were especially looked down upon.

Moreover, the continuous remakes have given an idea of how perhaps Disney no longer has original ideas and wants to milk off of older already successful projects. While reimagining classics would still make sense, Moana is not even a decade old to be given an entirely new outlook to it.
