The 75th Emmy Awards was held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on 15th January. The Emmys usually take place in September, but due to Hollywood’s writers’ and actors’ strikes, its date was pushed back several months later, until the award show finally took place yesterday.
While this year’s Emmys has been lauded as a must-watch, Jennifer Coolidge has been an ultimate standout. In the show, she was seen delivering yet another iconic award acceptance speech.
While accepting the 2024 Emmy Award for Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, Coolidge made her White Lotus character, Tanya McQuoid, proud. She made sure to give a special shout-out to the killers of her fictional character after winning an award.
Jennifer Coolidge Humorously Thanked “Evil Gays” While Accepting Emmy Award For Her Performance
In 2022, Jennifer Coolidge won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. This time, she proved herself yet again, delivering a possibly better speech in typical Jennifer Coolidge fashion.
Coolidge’s character met a gruesome end in The White Lotus season two finale. So, on behalf of the middle-aged heiress, the 62-year-old star graciously thanked the fictional wrongdoers in her acceptance speech (covered by Deadline).
With Tanya’s now-legendary line, “These gays, they’re trying to murder me,” Coolidge combined it and thanked “evil gays” by name—Paolo Camilli, Bruno Gouery, and Francesco Zecca. “I want to thank all the evil gays. Really,” she quipped.
The Massachusetts native also drew laughter from the audience while accepting the award from Lorraine Bracco and Michael Imperioli. She put the award down, saying she “didn’t have the strength” to hold it up.
The actress then thanked series creator Mike White, saying, “Thank you for this… giving me this opportunity to play this incredible character,” before adding: “He says I’m definitely dead, so I’m going along with it.” Here she meant that Tanya is “definitely dead,” so don’t expect her to win a third Emmy for the role in a row next year.
Jennifer Coolidge Ends Her Emmys Speech on a Sweet Note
Coolidge wrapped up her speech by making things sweeter, adding,
“One last thing. I had a little dream in my little town, and everyone said it was impractical and far-fetched, but it did happen after all, so don’t give up on your dream!”
Her performance in the series garnered numerous awards—two Critics’ Choice Awards, a Golden Globe, two MTV Movie Awards, two SAG Awards, and the prestigious title of Harvard’s Woman of the Year.
Watch both seasons of The White Lotus exclusively on HBO.
