The film is an evergreen franchise featuring numerous iconic scenes. However, Mark Lord shared that the film had undergone many changes, one being when Stewart was being chased by the FBI.

Twilight’s First Script Featured A Bizzare Idea To Attract Male Audience 

Twilight is an immensely popular franchise, the novels written by Stephenie Meyer gained a massive fanbase, and the movie adaptations received a global fanbase with with a devoted fanbase. While the final films were intriguing to watch, the first ideas were quite bizarre, as Catherine Hardwicke and Mark Lord share the absurd things that were a part of the first script of the Twilight films.

During an episode of The Big Hit Show podcast, Hardwicke and Lord were present on the show. Lord, who was the original screenwriter of the film mentioned that the film followed a more romantic theme but wanted to have some action in it so that the male audience is attracted to the franchise.

“They wanted to take the concept [of Romeo and Juliet with vampires] and build in a structure that was far more like a cinematic structure.”

Hardwicke added that the initial script of the film was “no good,” and it only belonged in the trash can. To prove her point, she stated how the first script of the film featured Kristen Stewart’s Bella Swan being chased by the FBI.

“I said, ‘First of all, this script’s got to go in the trash. It’s no good. You’ve got to make it like the book.,’ The original script literally had Bella [Swan] on jet skis being chased by the FBI. She was the star athlete, nothing to do with the book.”

Mark Lord added that the script also featured the Lizzie actress shooting vampires with a shotgun as he did not want her to be totally useless.

“Do you want her to do nothing? I want that girl to shoot some vampires. I want her to blow some s–t away.” 

However, fans did not have to see such bizarre stuff, as Lord was later replaced by Melissa Rosenberg, who penned all five of the franchise’s scripts, making sure that the film is loved by ardent fans of the series.

Michelle Trachtenberg Almost Replaced Kristen Stewart in Twilight

Even though Kristen Stewart was outstanding in the role of Bella Swan, she was never meant to play the role as Michelle Trachtenberg was the first choice for the role. During an exclusive interview with US Weekly, the Eurotrip actress acknowledged that she was a choice to play the role. She also mentioned that she had known Catherine Hardwicke for ages and was the frontrunner for the role of Bella Swan.

“There was definitely interest here and there because there’s only so few pale girls in Hollywood. I’ve known Catherine Hardwicke since the movie Thirteen. I was actually supposed to star in that, but I was on Buffy at the time.”

The actress added that she does not regret missing out on working in a vampire film, as she was in Buffy, and already has her hit vampire series.

“I already have Buffy. I’ve already done the vampire thing.”

While the Gossip Girl actress was the lead candidate for the role, the list to portray Bella Swan had some elite candidates such as Jennifer Lawrence, Emily Browning, and Lilly Collins. However, the role was ultimately bagged by Kristen Stewart.
