Marvel is reportedly eyeing Colman Domingo to replace Jonathan Majors as Kang

According to inside scooper Daniel Richtman, Marvel may consider Colman Domingo as a potential replacement for Jonathan Majors as Kang. Domingo won an Outstanding Guest Actor Emmy for his role as a recovering drug addict, Ali, on Euphoria. He also starred as Civil Rights activist Bayard Rustin in the critically acclaimed Netflix film Rustin, earning him a nomination for Best Actor at the upcoming Golden Globes.

With these impressive projects showcasing his acting capabilities, Domingo seems to be a great pick for the Kang role. Interestingly, in an interview with AwardsWatch two years ago, the Zola actor revealed his interest in making his debut in the Marvel or DC universe. When asked if he would accept an invitation from his Candyman director Nia DaCosta for a role in The Marvels, Domingo stated that he would jump right in.

The Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom actor further added that he was even physically fit and ready to join the superhero universes. He also highlighted that he didn’t want to play the good guy but wanted to do some dirty work as a villain. He told AwardsWatch:

“I’m jumping in. It’s funny. Just the other day, I was looking at something and I thought like that’s wild. I haven’t been a part of any [universe]. I’m part of the Fear the Walking Dead universe, but when it comes to Marvel or DC, I think I’m ready now. I’m worked out, fit… I just want to be the villain. I don’t want to be the good guy. I want to do some really dirty, nasty work.”

His dream partly came true as he voiced Batman opposite Hasan Minhaj’s Riddler in the Spotify scripted podcast The Riddler: Secrets in the Dark.

Colman Domingo, 54, is much older than Jonathan Majors, who is just 34. However, Domingo may be cast as a variant of the characters who appeared in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Loki. Interestingly, there are also rumors that Marvel may bring other major villains into play along with Kang.

These rumors were strengthened after The Hollywood Reporter reported that Avengers: The Kang Dynasty was now referred to as Avengers 5. Domingo may still find a significant role in Avengers 5 and 6 if he’s offered the role. Marvel will look to add Doctor Doom to the equation in Fantastic Four. Some sources also suggest that the movies will be revamped as Secret Wars Part 1 and Part 2, shifting the focus away from Kang.
