The thing about brilliant minds is that they are always thinking about their next project. Even though their current thing is in front of the audience, they would still have their next big thing in their heads. A similar thing can be said about game director Hidetaka Miyazaki: with games like Bloodborne and Elden Ring, which can only be described as the works of a genius, he has proven his worth.

Now that the DLC for Elden Ring, Shadow of the Erdtree, is about to be launched, he cannot help but talk about what he wants to do next. And it certainly looks like his idea for FromSoftware’s next game might be much harder and on a grander scale.

Hidetaka Miyazaki plans to follow Elden Ring with an even larger project

His story is like that of every legendary artist out there. He started small; in fact, he started with a game that had no direction. It was called Demon Souls; it was going nowhere, and he came in and guided it towards being soul-like.

The thing was that Sony wanted FromSoftware to work on an Elder Scrolls-type game, but they were not able to do that. How did they counter this issue, though? It was quite simple, to be honest; they decided to not develop an Elder Scrolls clone and work on something original.

Hidetaka Miyazaki then finished this game, which was named Demon Souls, a very tough yet engaging title. There are numerous weapons to master, spells to try, and incredible-looking bosses to defeat, each with their own gimmick to figure out.

Despite being developed in a hurry and having a very low budget, Demon Souls gave a feeling of grandeur thanks to its music and cinematic cutscene. And eventually, it became a cult hit, successfully giving birth to the soul-like genre and the Dark Souls franchise.

From that very moment on, his games started increasing in size, quality, sound mixing, and everything else one can think of. From Bloodborne to Dark Souls 3 to finally Elden Ring, the aesthetics of his games have gotten better and better.

And that’s why it comes as no surprise that during a recent interview with Famitsu, he suggested he would like to work on a game that is even larger than one of his current games. His reply was pretty straightforward.

I can’t say if it’s something I can get to right away, but if I am allowed, I want to try. The staff and everyone probably feel the same, but we want to take advantage of this experience we had with Elden Ring, but rather than that and above all, creating huge worlds and adventures is amazingly fun. It thrills me.

It’s exciting to know that he is still thinking of putting all that effort into a game that is either larger or equal to the size and scale of Elden Ring. Once Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is launched, fans will start asking what’s next for the developer, and maybe everyone will get some answers too.

Maybe it’s now Sekiro’s turn?

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice was a unique take in the genre.

Fans all over the world have been asking FromSoftware for Bloodborne 2, but they do not understand that it’s Sony’s IP. To make a sequel to that game, Sony has to greenlight that project for it to be made.

On the other hand, Sekiro is now under Microsoft, and they wouldn’t mind getting a sequel to one of the most popular games in their library at the moment.
