The scene, involving Keoghan’s character Oliver, unfolds as he grapples with grief and desire, choosing to pleasure himself with grave soil after his love interest Felix (played by Jacob Elordi) has been laid to rest.
The scene ended up getting considerable discussion online about its meaning and impact, while many felt it was just disgusting. While speaking to GQ, Keoghan confirmed that the controversial scene was not part of the script whatsoever.
“I just wanted to explore and grow with the character. I asked for a closed set. I said I want to try something. I just wanted to see what I’d do as Oliver.”
