In a 2019 interview, he revealed his desire to have a cinematic duel with Vladimir Furdik, who played the White Walker. But while he didn’t get to do it, he added that this opportunity opened the door for Maisie Williams’ Arya Stark to shine.

I was a bit pissed off, only because I wanted to kill the Night King! (Further) I think I felt like everyone else did, in that it had been set up for a long time, and then I didn’t get to do it. But I was so happy for Maisie and Arya. I was secretly like, ‘I wanted to do that!

Game of Thrones was filled with capable fighters, whether it be Jon Snow or Jaime Lannister. But in the end, Arya Stark was the one who eliminated the biggest antagonist of the show, the Night King, in the Battle of Winterfell. This resulted in all the White Walkers turning into little pieces of icy fragments in one swift move.

With this single act, Arya managed to save Winterfell as well as all of humanity. The showrunners, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, revealed in the post-episode breakdown that they had known for a couple of years that it would be Williams’ Arya who would deliver the final blow to the Night King.

Interestingly, Arya used a Valyrian steel dagger, one of the few weapons that can kill a White Walker. As soon as she stabbed the Night King with the dagger, he immediately shattered into pieces. In the show, it was Bran who passed on the weapon to Arya, knowing that she would use it to save him.

Further, even Williams’ boyfriend felt that it should have been Jon Snow who should have killed the Night King.
