How did Jada Pinkett Smith defeat her depression?

Jada Pinkett Smith had a very rough phase in her life when she turned 40. The Nutty Professor actress started to hear voices and looked for ways to kill herself. In an interview with People, she spoke of her painful phase where nothing seemed more comfortable than death- “When I turned 40, I was in so much pain. I couldn’t figure a way out besides death. So I made a plan.”

The actress who will soon release her memoir titled Worthy admitted that she was hit by a massive amount of depression and was all set to plot her death. Pinkett Smith didn’t want her children to think that their mother had committed suicide so she searched for ways to make it look like an accident.

“But, while I was really living the dream, I hit a huge wall — a massive amount of depression. I think that I looked at having outside sources to supplement for the voids that I was feeling inside. The voices were incoming. ‘Just kill yourself. You’re not worth anything, you ain’t s–t’. I started looking for places, cliffs where I could have an accident because I didn’t want my kids to think that their mother had committed suicide.”

It was only due to her son Jaden, the Bad Moms actress came to know about the psychedelic drug. Jaden Smith made his mom hear the experience of his friend’s dad’s therapeutic experience and wanted Pinkett Smith to try it as well. She praised Ayahuasca for saving her life- “Ayahuasca helped me, it gave me a new intimate relationship with myself that I had never had before.”

At a Psychedelic Science conference in Denver, Jaden publicly admitted how his mother introduced psychedelics to the entire family. The news raised quite a buzz on the internet.

Jaden also admitted (via PageSix) that using psychedelics has helped him improve his relationship with his siblings and form a closer bond.

“Siblings can argue so much and fight so much, and lord knows me and my siblings have done so much of that in the past. But the level of love and empathy that I can feel for them inside of the [psychedelic] experiences and outside of the experiences has been something that’s profound and beautiful.”
