Les Misérables was an iconic movie starring Anne Hathaway in the lead. During the film, the 40-year-old star decided to chop off her hair. Many actors opt for wings while fitting in their character, and some decide to alter their hair, Hathaway took the latter option. 

She, during her time on Live! with Kelly according to People said she didn’t think the chopping would be a big concern. She said, “It was something I wanted to do for a long time, and I knew it was something the character did.” The One Day actress pitched the idea to her director Tom Hooper. She hated her pixie look.

The Princess Diaries star revealed, “I’ve now done backflips out of windows. I’ve jumped off buildings. And cutting my hair reduced me to like mental patient-level crying. I was inconsolable.”

The Intern actress later came to terms with her decision and accepted her pixie look. She flaunted it as she received Oscar for her performance in Les Misérables.

The movie Les Misérables is based on the book of the same name by Victor Hugo. Hathaway played the role of Fantine. The story traces Fantine, who has an illicit kid with a rich man who left her after he discovers she is pregnant with their child. After the birth of Cosette, the infant she sends the baby to the opportunistic Thénardier family, who agrees to care for the child on Fantine’s earnings.

Having a kid before wedlock leads Fantine to lose her job while she turns to odd survival techniques to support her child. After selling her teeth and hair she finally turns to sexual favours.

The movie, with a $61 million budget, managed to earn $441 million worldwide and garnered positive reviews. Hathaway went on to win Oscar for her performance in the film.
