Charlize Theron is an incredible actress with an uncanny knack for delivering an exceptional performance no matter what role she plays. Having played supervillains and even the role of a serial killer for which she won an Oscar, Theron would not regard them as her toughest job. For Theron, starring as the problematic American Journalist Megyn Kelly was the most challenging role she has ever undertaken. In an interview, she said,

“[Megyn Kelly is] incredibly well-known, and I’ve never played anybody that’s on that level. I’ve played real people, but people that nobody knows about. There was less pressure when I did those. I was just really scared, too, because I honestly knew her so superficially. She’s conflicting.”

Charlize Theron stars as Kelly in the 2019 movie Bombshell. It follows the story of three female journalists who risk their careers to bring down the right-wing mogul Roger Ailes for his chain of s*xual-harassment allegations.

“This was harder. You forget sometimes — all of us do this — we think we know people, we have our preconceived ideas of them. As an actor, you have to have that ability to put all of that aside and do research, and to actually find out about somebody.”

Admitting that Bombshell is not a biopic about anyone, but rather a portrayal of a high-profile incident, Theron felt she had to work harder for this role as the story was worth telling.
