Brendan Fraser reminded everyone of his mettle with an Oscar-winning performance in The Whale. The movie, directed by Darren Aronofsky, was the perfect comeback opportunity for the 54-year-old. His role in The Whale was in sharp contrast to his performance in his role in George of the Jungle. The 1997 movie made him a household name. And Fraser knows that. Looking back, the Bedazzled star couldn’t help but remember a lot of moments, some emotional, and some outright comical.
Brendan Fraser had ‘the time of his life’ on the sets of George of the Jungle
Featuring in George of the Jungle was another experience altogether for Brendan Fraser. Imagine roaming around the set in nothing but a loincloth. That was not the only unforgettable experience he had.
There were an awful lot of animals in the film (that’s to be expected in a film that is based in a jungle). Some of the roles would be delegated to humans dressed in costumes. But there were some real animals on the set.

Brendan Fraser on working with animals
In an interview with Deadline, the Encino Man star admitted that it was a real pain working with some of the animals. The lions were kept under a leash by their instructors (who were themselves dressed in lion costumes). But there was no one to control that “naughty little monkey.”
Elaborating on his experience of working with real animals, Fraser let us know that apes, monkeys in particular, become “incorrigible and they bite and scratch – and that’s nasty and scary.” Mr. Binks was no different.
How a monkey made Brendan Fraser laugh to his death
Fraser had countless run-ins with his furry co-star on the set. There was that one time Mr. Binks instead of whispering into his ear, stuck his tongue into The Mummy star’s eardrum. And there was the one time he had a meltdown on set.
Fraser recounted,
“And he got mad, rips off his fur bikini – wait for it – disappears into the rafters, starts tearing apart the set deck. There’s flowers and all kinds of c*** flying around the place. And yeah, he was, he was having a monkey moment. And the trainer came out and was like, ‘Stop that right now, Mr. Binks! No, no!’ I was killing myself laughing.”
No wonder that he has had enough of working with monkeys.
