Brad Pitt is a renowned actor who has established himself as one of the most versatile and talented performers in Hollywood. With a career spanning several decades, Pitt has captivated audiences with his charisma, and exceptional acting skills. Known for his striking looks and magnetic screen presence, he has delivered memorable performances in a wide range of genres, from drama to comedy and action.
Yet the superstar skipped the golden opportunity to play the lead role in the 2009, State of Play. The Once Upon a Time in Hollywood star nearly sued himself after his sudden exit from the film. But it looks like Kevin Macdonald, the director of State of Play, is now contended with the exit of Pitt from the movie.
Brad Pitt’s Sudden Exit From State of Play
Brad Pitt‘s departure from the film State of Play left many fans and industry insiders surprised and disappointed. The political thriller, directed by Kevin Macdonald, generated significant buzz due to its intriguing storyline. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button star was initially set to play the lead role of Cal McAffrey, a journalist investigating a high-profile murder case. However, due to creative differences and the changes in the film’s original draft, Pitt made the sudden decision to exit the project.
His departure opened the door for actor Russell Crowe to step into the role, ultimately delivering a powerful performance. The departure of the 12 Years a Slave star from the film, nearly pushed the studio to sue him. However, the entry of Crowe resulted in an impactful continuation of the film.
Kevin Macdonald Feels That The Exit Of Brad Pitt From The Film Became Lucky For Him
State of Play is a gripping political thriller that keeps audiences on the edge of their seats. Directed by Kevin Macdonald, the film boasts a star-studded cast including Russell Crowe, Ben Affleck, Rachel McAdams, Helen Mirren, and much more. Set in the world of journalism and politics, the story follows a seasoned investigative reporter, Cal McAffrey (played by Crowe), as he delves into a complex web of corruption and conspiracy surrounding a high-profile murder.
Despite the unwanted circumstances, director Kevin Macdonald held no ill feelings toward Brad Pitt. Reflecting on the experience, Macdonald considered himself fortunate that the casting changed. Macdonald emphasized that it would have been tough for the audience to comprehend a lonely journalist struggling to find a girlfriend with the handsome appearance of Pitt.
“In a way, I was lucky it didn’t work out with Brad. The relationship between the journalist and the politician was meant to be between somebody who feels inferior, who’s a bit of a schlump, who kind of can’t get a girlfriend, and somebody he’s looking up to and admires – his polished politician friend. That is not the dynamic of Brad Pitt. He’s not looking up to anyone thinking ‘Oh, I wish I could have your girlfriend’.”
While Brad Pitt’s departure from State of Play led to chaos and temporary tension, the makers were still able to deliver an acclaimed film with apt casting. With Russell Crowe stepping into the lead role, the film was able to proceed, maintaining a compelling dynamic between the characters and delivering a successful thriller to audiences.
State of Play is available on Amazon Prime Video.
