Arnold Schwarzenegger Lost Mr. Universe (1968)  

During his quest for bodybuilding greatness, Schwarzenegger faced a significant blow when he came in second place in the Mr. Universe (1968) competition. The disappointment and embarrassment he experienced fueled his determination to reassess his physique and make necessary changes. The Terminator star shared that he was even being referred to as “balloon belly” by the Gold Gym owner, Joe Gold because of his accumulated body fat.

All this embarked Schwarzenegger on a journey to shed excess body fat and achieve a leaner, and much more sculpted physique. In his docuseries, Arnold Schwarzenegger admitted that he never obsessively counted his calories.

The Predator star shared the simple weight-loss strategies that helped him maintain his trim figure. This approach involved dropping a meal, either by delaying his morning meal or substituting dinner with a generous serving of vegetable soup. Schwarzenegger found that these adjustments, coupled with a focus on consuming ample amounts of protein, yielded significant results. 

“One thing that’s worked for me when I am trying to get more ripped for a project has been just dropping a meal…Sometimes, I get going with my day after my training and have eggs or yogurt with granola later than normal, almost as a brunch instead of breakfast.”
