February 2013 was an auspicious time, as Hollywood held the 85th Academy Awards to honor the best films, directors, actors, and artisans of 2012. For hosting the event, the Oscars recruited Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane. While it was his first time hosting the event, people were not happy with the way he handled the ceremony, including Jamie Lee Curtis.
Apparently, Jamie Lee Curtis had an issue with the host and therefore, she openly criticized Seth MacFarlane’s performance. Calling out MacFarlane for using satirical humor and musical numbers to poke fun at the entertainment industry, Lee Curtis claimed to be offended by it.
Seth MacFarlane Was Criticized For His Oscar Performance
Sitting through the Oscars and witnessing brilliant actors, directors, and artisans being hailed for their talent is always an amazing experience. However, over the years not every Oscars ceremony has been appreciated by viewers, for some of them were controversial. Take an example of the 85th Academy Awards, when Seth MacFarlane was asked to host the Oscars, the event turned into a severe disaster.
Watching the 85th Oscars in 2013 was considered extremely difficult for audiences as Seth MacFarlane filled it with a series of crudely sexist antics, satirical humor, and musical numbers to poke fun at actors as well as the film industry. The evening being filled with misogyny and silliness was therefore criticized by most people.
Not just viewers but also the actors and artists present called out the Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane, for his performance. The Academy Awards is an event that is supposed to be held in order to honor stars and artists, but instead, MacFarlane turned it into a humiliation after he came up with a song titled “We Saw Your B*obs.”
Calling out actresses who went topless on screen, Seth MacFarlane poked fun at the A-listers. And certainly, his silliness wasn’t appreciated, and therefore brutally criticized.
Jamie Lee Curtis Was Offended By The Oscar Host’s Tomfoolery
Among Seth MacFarlane’s many critics who called out the star for his disastrous performance, Jamie Lee Curtis was highly critical of the way MacFarlane injected some of his own Family Guy humor into the Academy Awards. Unimpressed with the way the host turned the Oscars from an honorable event to a silly show, Lee Curtis slammed MacFarlane.
Particularly offended by Seth MacFarlane’s “We Saw Your B*obs” song, Jamie Lee Curtis claimed that the host went too far with his humor. Although some enjoyed the song, the actress thought it was extremely offensive. Therefore, Lee Curtis wrote in HuffPost, how he felt about the whole thing.
“I was offended last week. As an Academy member, as the child of former Academy members, and as a woman, I expected more from the best that the movie business has to offer. The Oscars are about honoring art and artists. It is not supposed to be a cheesy vaudeville show.”
“The ‘b*ob’ song, as it will be known in perpetuity, may go down as the highest-rated Oscar number in history, but at what cost? I’m sure public executions would get big ratings too, but is that what the Oscars are truly about? Ratings? When did they turn into a ‘roast?’ At least at a roast you know what’s in store,”
Jamie Lee Curtis was undoubtedly offended by Seth MacFarlane’s performance. Therefore, without holding back, the actress brutally criticized the star.
