Patrick Hughes’ Laugh Forced His Crew To Lock Him Outside The Studio

Watching Samuel L. Jackson and Ryan Reynolds in the 2017 action/ comedy film, The Hitman’s Bodyguard, was a treat to the eyes. The scenes in the films were hilarious because the two actors had an impeccable chemistry. Their sharp wit, constant banter, and contrasting personalities led to several giggle-fests.

As a result, they decided to come up with a sequel in 2021 titled, Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard. While the film was entertaining to watch, shooting it was extremely difficult as Patrick Hughes, the director of the film would often crack up on the set and he would have a high-pitched laugh that was unbearable after some point.

During an exclusive interview with BBC, Salma Hayek and Ryan Reynolds were asked, “Who on set was the worst at cracking up on camera?” Both actors immediately answered, “The director.” Hayek explained that Hughes was cracking up on camera while they were shooting and his laughter would ruin a lot of good takes.

“The director was cracking up on camera while we were shooting what and we didn’t break and he would just like ruin a lot of takes but-but we were happy to know that he was happy and that he was laughing.”

Reynolds added that it was not silent snickering but the one that came directly from the diaphragm, the more bassy, open-mouthed laughter.

“Yeah, not even silent snickering either like would let it fly would come from diaphragm just real you know bassy, open-mouth laughter.”

Patrick Hughes came forward and mentioned how he couldn’t stop laughing while directing the film, he added that the situation got so bad that the crew decided to wheel out his monitor outside and close the studio doors so that they could complete the film. However, later he was allowed to laugh to his heart’s content as everything was soundproof.

“I couldn’t stop laughing like it just I couldn’t keep it together and it got to the point that they actually wheeled my monitor outside the studio doors. We were shooting in winter, mind you, they closed the studio doors, I was outside in the snow while people will feel me inside. But then, I was allowed to laugh as loud as I could because everything’s soundproof.”

It’s not the director’s fault for laughing while shooting the scenes, as the movie was full of laughter, so if you are looking for a film that would make you laugh till your tummy hurts, then Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard is the film to watch.
