And while finding hopeless odds to survive, Carrey admitted how his resentment was focused upon his mother.
Almost always blaming his mother for his situation, Jim Carrey felt that he was forced to grow up before his time due to his mother’s personal demons. Thus, there came a time when the actor openly allowed his intrusive thoughts out in the limelight and confessed how his subconscious mind often contemplated killing his mother.

Jim Carrey Opened Up About a Difficult Point in His Life
While making everyone else’s lives filled with laughter and joy, Jim Carrey personally suffered misery during his childhood years. The actor opened up about growing up in poverty while having an estranged relationship with his mother. Speaking about his parents’ financial struggle, Carrey recalled how he was forced to grow up before his time.
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, The Mask actor recalled how he somehow blamed his mother for the atrocities he faced during his childhood. This eventually strained their relationship and Carrey found it difficult to endure his mother. Discussing how his mother, Kathleen, was addicted to painkillers, Jim Carrey claimed that this negatively impacted her ability to care for her son.

Feeling abandoned by his own parents struck a difficult point in his life. He fell into destructive behaviors and confessed how he wanted to run away. “Everybody had daggers and knives, and I was in the middle of the madness. And I wasn’t shrinking from it at all. I wanted to fight.” the actor shared.
Jim Carrey Almost Let His Intrusive Thoughts Run Wild
Opening up about his childhood difficulties during another interview with Rolling Stones, Jim Carrey claimed that his destructive behavior alongside his family’s financial struggle almost turned him into a troublemaker. But somehow, he struggled to get ahead of his intrusive thoughts as he conceded that “from about age 19, I became the parent in my family” while his parents constantly struggled with their demons.
However, although both his parents struggled equally, Jim Carrey somehow blamed his mother for all of it. Struggling against hopeless odds to survive, Carrey held resentment squarely focused upon his mother, Kathleen. During the interview, the actor thus opened up about how he often subconsciously contemplated killing his mother to end his misery.
“I ran out of patience, and I had to move them back to Canada. I was having bad dreams — I was strangling my mother in my sleep.”
Jim Carrey confessed, almost letting his intrusive thoughts win after he allowed his parents to live with him until he went bankrupt because of them. Plagued by financial and emotional problems, Carrey confessed to thinking about killing his mother, specifically, because of his resentment against her. Eventually, he survived the difficulty without harming anyone and turned into one of Hollywood’s finest actors/comedians.
