And, it was precisely these actions that created an unbreakable emotional bond with viewers, allowing her antics to pass with a charm that calls to mind a bygone era. Despite hitting it big with Two and a Half Men, Ferrell took some time to reflect on her career’s rollercoaster ride when she likened her journey to a diamond in the rough.

The late actress confessed that her stint on the show was originally supposed to be just a flash in the pan, meant for only two episodes.

The Unsung Journey of Conchata Ferrell: From Two-Episode Role to Beloved Icon

Oh, Berta, Berta, Berta! That sassy housekeeper from Chuck Lorre’s Two and a Half Men sure knew how to deliver a sarcastic remark with a side of love. From her constant jabs at Alan Harper (Jon Cryer) to her moments of genuine care for the people she loved, Berta (Conchata Ferrell) was a character that left a lasting impression.

Despite her questionable work ethic (smoking weed and sneaking in naps on the job), Berta managed to steal our hearts with her quick wit and no-nonsense attitude. It’s hard to imagine the show without her, but there are definitely some things about her character that wouldn’t fly in today’s world.

But let’s not dwell on the past; let’s celebrate Ferrell and the legacy the late actor left behind. Can you believe she was initially only hired for two episodes? Talk about making a lasting hit! And boy, did she make that impact, appearing in a total of 211 episodes.

Despite striking gold with Two and a Half Men, Ferrell had a candid chat with A.V. Club about her career, which she described as a mixed bag with its fair share of bumps along the road. She spilled the beans that her role on the show was originally just a flash in the pan, intended for a mere two episodes:

I was supposed to quit because of Alan and the boy. But it was set up in the back storyline that I had taken care of Charlie for almost 20 years, and that we were really good friends, but neither one of us ever talked in terms of that. And I really liked working for him.

Ferrell’s portrayal of Berta was truly a work of art, a blend of crustiness and kindness that made her character so endearing.

In the months leading up to her death, Ferrell faced a storm of health issues. According to TMZ, the actress was struck with a kidney infection that spread like wildfire, contaminating her blood and leaving her feeling weak as a kitten.

In a cruel twist of fate, July 2020 saw Ferrell’s husband reveal that she had suffered a heart attack in 2020, requiring hospitalization and a long road to recovery. The actress was moved to a long-term treatment center, where she was put on a respirator and underwent dialysis. During this challenging period, she was “semi-conscious”, which meant she was somewhat aware but unable to fully engage with her surroundings, as per TMZ’s account.

In the wake of Ferrell’s passing, tributes poured in from her Two and a Half Men family. Charlie Sheen, who played Charlie Harper, took to X to remember her fondly. He described her as “an absolute sweetheart”, adding:
