Despite being one of the biggest Hollywood stars, actress Scarlett Johansson has faced rejection multiple times. In 2013, the actress was left heartbroken when she was rejected after she auditioned for the role of Ryan Stone in director Alfonso Cuarón’s 2013 movie Gravity, however, this is not a new feeling for Johansson as she experienced something similar back when she was young, as actress Lindsay Lohan took away a major opportunity from her.
Today, Johansson is one of the highest-grossing box office stars of all time. With so many blockbuster hits, she probably doesn’t have regrets anymore about her failed auditions.
Scarlett Johansson lost a role to Lindsay Lohan
After making her Hollywood debut in 1994’s North at the age of 12, actress Scarlett Johansson appeared in several movies. In the late 1990s, she auditioned for the role of twins Hallie Parker and Annie James in Disney’s 1998 movie The Parent Trap. During her appearance on Howard Stern Show, Johansson recalled that she got rejected because she was too old for the role,
“I was too old for that movie when I auditioned for it. Maybe when it came out, I was also too old to watch it.”
The role then went to actress Lindsay Lohan, making her a well-known name in the entertainment industry.
Scarlett Johansson also lost a role to Sandra Bullock
Earlier this year, Johansson also recalled the time she lost a role in director Alfonso Cuarón’s 2013 movie Gravity. The actress told Variety,
“I got turned down for two roles – the first was Iron Man 2 and then the other one was Alfonso Cuarón’s Gravity. I had wanted that role so much. It was sort of the straw that broke the camel’s back. I felt really frustrated and hopeless. Like, ‘Am I doing the right job?’ The work I was being offered felt deeply unfulfilling. I think I was offered every Marilyn Monroe script ever. I was like, ‘Is this the end of the road creatively?'”
The role of Natasha Romanoff in the MCU initially went to Emily Blunt but due to some issues, it was passed on to Johansson. Unfortunately, Johansson was rejected for the role of Ryan Stone in Gravity and the role went to Sandra Bullock.
