Tom Holland rose to prominence in the entertainment industry for his dynamic and compelling performances. He first gained attention for his stage work in the West End production of Billy Elliot the Musical before making his on-screen debut in the film The Impossible in 2012. However, his portrayal of Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe truly propelled him into the spotlight.
The actor previously opened up about the arduous yet impressive stuntwork he performed for his film Uncharted. Despite his excitement, his girlfriend and co-star in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Zendaya, seemed initially perplexed rather than awed. However, Holland didn’t let this discourage him, as he expressed his passion for his craft and his dedication to bringing authenticity to his performances.
Why Did Zendaya Ridicule Tom Holland’s Uncharted
In an appearance on Virgin Radio, Tom Holland shared that he immediately jumped into filming Spider-Man: No Way Home after wrapping up work on Uncharted. As he was still buzzing from the exhilarating experience of bringing his beloved video game to life, Holland attempted to explain the film’s plot to Zendaya. Despite seeing him perform awe-inspiring stunts in the Spider-Man franchise, Zendaya struggled to comprehend one of the daring sequences in Uncharted that Holland recounted.
“I was sitting down with Zendaya, and I was trying to explain to her what Uncharted was about. I was like, ‘There’s this moment where I get hit by a car that is falling out of an airplane … well, I get hit by a car that is falling out of an airplane,'” he said.
According to Holland, Zendaya couldn’t fathom the extent of his commitment to the role and was left in disbelief by the daunting tasks he undertook. However, Holland remained resolute in his dedication to his craft and was determined to give his all.
“And she was like, ‘Wait, what? How on Earth does that happen? This film sounds ridiculous,'” he continued. “I was like, ‘You have to wait and see the film. It makes sense when you see the film.'”
Tom Holland Feels All Stunts Were Necessary
The plane scene that Tom Holland worked on was no easy feat; at times, it was both physically and mentally grueling. Despite the challenges, Holland shared during an interview that he found the experience “tough for all the right reasons.” The physically demanding nature of the role pushed him to his limits and challenged him in ways that made him grow as an actor.
“We wanted to create an action sequence that was breathtaking, that really hadn’t been seen before, and that meant we had to kind of push the boundaries on what we could do with practical stunts,” he explained.
For Tom Holland, playing the role of Nathan Drake in the Uncharted movie was a dream come true, given his lifelong love for the video game series. Despite the challenges he faced, Holland’s passion for the role and his admiration for the Uncharted franchise made the experience all the more meaningful to him. The movie went on to make $400 million worldwide.
Uncharted is available for streaming on Netflix.
