Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s Serious Crush on Ewan McGregor

It is hard to blame Mary Elizabeth Winstead for succumbing to the obvious charm and talent of Ewan McGregor. With his iconic roles in films like Moulin Rouge, Trainspotting, and the Star Wars prequels, the latter has been winning hearts on screen for years. And it seems that Winstead was no exception.

During the interview with the NY Times, Winstead, 39, expressed that she had always looked up to and appreciated McGregor, having followed his career and watched his films in amazement. She proceeded to acknowledge that during her teen years, she had a massive crush on McGregor:

The thing is, if you were a teenager when ‘Trainspotting’ and ‘Moulin Rouge’ came out, I don’t think you could not have an awareness. But I didn’t have any posters on my wall. I wasn’t writing his name in my notebook.”

“We loved it.”

Meanwhile, McGregor concurred, saying, “We did”. It was “amazing writing”, he continued, adding:

“I feel like there were two shows because I played the two characters. But our story line was amazing. To play Ray and Nikki, what a great pair, what a great partnership, what a great oddball couple.”

While collaborating on Fargo in 2017, the couple got to know one another. In an interview with the FX Network, Winstead was all praise for her co-star. While McGregor conceded, “I love working with Mary”, the Bobby actress exclaimed, “Ewan is incredible”.

Moreover, “I knew we were going to get on”, McGregor shared in an interview with Jimmy Kimmel Live!

And it appears that their on-screen chemistry was as electric as Winstead had hoped. They bonded well right away, and are now a happy couple. In April 2022, they tied the knot.

Ewan McGregor and Mary Elizabeth Winstead had the opportunity to collaborate once again in the 2020 flick Birds of Prey, having fallen in love on the set of Fargo in 2017. Margot Robbie, who has undergone a remarkable metamorphosis, played Harley Quinn, a DC Comics character, in the film. With Winstead in the role of Helena Bertinelli, McGregor played the villain, Roman Sionis.

Winstead told Who What Wear that the film’s “strong, interesting, and unique” female cast members were what “piqued [her] interest”. She did, in fact, gush about her husband when she spoke with Warner Bros. for the film. With a smile, the Ahsoka star shared:

“He’s just such a great actor and I think he’s one of the most versatile actors out there. So he’s perfect for this because it’s sort of shocking in a way to see him be nasty and vile.”

Winstead and McGregor appear to be serious about one another, which is apparent. Naturally, it is not unusual for actors to get smitten with their coworkers, particularly in a profession like this. And their story exemplifies how even Hollywood stars can not help falling for their co-stars’ charms.

On the work front, Winstead was recently seen in the lead role of Count Alexander Rostov in the British television series, A Gentleman in Moscow.

Fargo can be streamed on Hulu, while Birds of Prey is available on Netflix.
