Often, actors have roles they really want to play in their careers, and they actively pursue these roles no matter the obstacles. It appears Brad Pitt had such a wish in his career; to portray the late American musician Kurt Cobain. Pitt reportedly approached actress Courtney Love, who was Cobain’s wife at the time of his death, to pitch the biopic, however, she turned down the proposal.

Courtney Love was skeptical of Brad Pitt’s intentions for the Cobain biopic. In the eyes of the Trapped actress, she did not trust the Babylon actor and was uncertain about his commercial interests in the film. The lead vocalist of the ‘Hole’ band was not keen on Pitt playing Cobain, as she felt that he didn’t understand Cobain. Love disclosed to Maron:

“I wouldn’t let Brad play Kurt. I went nuclear. I don’t do Faust. Who the fuck do you think are?… [she told Pitt] ‘I don’t know if I trust you and I don’t know that your movies are for profit. They’re really good social justice movies, but…if you don’t get me, you kind of don’t get Kurt, and I don’t feel like you do, Brad.’”

The Beat actress went on to accuse the Troy actor of retaliating by rejecting her from a role in his movie Fight Club. Courtney Love alleges that she was all set to play the character Marla Singer in the movie when she was unfairly kicked out from the film, and replaced by Helena Bonham Carter.

Sources close to the David Fincher film indicated that Courtney Love did audition for the role, but she was not selected. The source also clarified that Brad Pitt had not interfered with the casting of the movie. However, Love stated that she got the news directly from Edward Norton whom she was dating at the time, and also from Fincher, who called to inform her about the news.

After the podcast, The People vs. Larry Flynt actress took to Instagram to further confirm the statements she had made on the podcast. Love hated how the Mr. & Mrs. Smith actor wielded his power to exact revenge against her. The 200 Cigarettes actress noted on her account:

“Brad pushed me a bridge too far. I don’t like the way he does business or wields his power. It’s a simple fact, and it started during the production of ‘Fight Club’. It’s a movie. Indeed, I passed on better roles than [sic] that. Who cares? The point is Brad kept on stalking me about Kurt.”

The singer also claimed that she rejected Pitt’s pitch once again in 2020 and that she brought up the matter on the podcast to stop Pitt from further pursuing the role. Interestingly, Gus Van Sant, who approached Love alongside Pitt, later did a project loosely based on Kurt Cobain’s life, titled Last Days.
