And no matter how many masterpieces the star might be a part of in the future, his performance as the English mobster of the early 20th century will forever remain in the hearts of the audience. And somewhere in his mind and heart, he may just feel the same about the character, which is why he recently revealed he is down to reprise his role for another story of a Shelby in his older days if the script demands it.

As the saying goes, the first impression is the last impression, and when it came to Cillian Murphy‘s iconic role as Thomas Shelby in the superhit BBC show Peaky Blinders, that impression turned into an immortal mark in the history of the silver screen. And after six seasons, the show was finally concluded in 2022.

Despite leaving a legacy that might not be recreated in the future, it seems like the star is not done with the character just yet. In a recent interview with Lauren Laverne on an episode of BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs, the Batman Begins star revealed that he would be more than happy to return as the cold-hearted mobster boss in the show or a spin-off series featuring him in the future.

He stated that he had the utmost belief in series creator Stephen Knight’s ability to whip up something exquisite for a story featuring Shelby, even after his days of prime. He said:

“If there is more story to tell, and if Stephen Knight delivers a script like I know he can, then I will be there, I mean, if we want to watch 50-year-old Tommy Shelby, I will be there. Let’s do it.”

While there may be no word of a season seven or a spin-off series through official channels just yet, Murphy’s wish to return as well as public demand surely gives new and/or old creators a lot of incentives to create something new.

Why Was Peaky Blinders So Successful?

One of the major reasons why this show became a worldwide sensation was thanks to the exceptional character portrayals of the stars in the series.

With the suave demeanor accompanied by the cold and calculating gaze of a predator, the world became Thomas Shelby’s, and subsequently, the show’s fans because of their performances. Melting into it was the exceptional storytelling and character development that made no errors with the execution of the events in front of the camera. All this culminated in making this series one of the best the world has ever seen.
