Actor Bill Murray is a respected name in the industry with many successful and iconic films to his credit. He has starred in many memorable and acclaimed films such as the Ghostbusters franchise, Groundhog Day, and Lost in Translation among others. Murray is also known to be hard to work with on set and there have been many instances where creative differences and conflict arose between him and a member of a film. One of the most publicized was his alleged feud with a leading cast member in the first Charlie’s Angels film which led him to not return in future sequels.
Bill Murray Did Not Get Along With Lucy Liu on Charlie’s Angels
Bill Murray starred in the first Charlie’s Angels film as John Bosley, alongside Lucy Liu, Cameron Diaz, and Drew Barrymore. Reportedly, Murray did not get along with Liu on set, criticizing her lack of acting skills and she landed a punch at Murray, leading to an ugly spat between them. Murray told Liu, (via Entertainment Weekly)
“Look, I will dismiss you completely if you are unprofessional and working with me…When our relationship is professional, and you’re not getting that done, forget it.”
Murray did not reprise his role in the film’s sequel Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle. He was replaced by actor Bernie Mac who played John Bosley’s adoptive brother Jimmy Bosley.
Lucy Liu Does Not Regret Standing Up For Herself Against Bill Murray
Lucy Liu recently reflected on her altercation with Bill Murray on Charlie’s Angels. The actress appeared on the Asian Enough Podcast and talked extensively about how she stood up for herself against Murray’s insults and does not regret her actions one bit. She said,
“Some of the language was inexcusable and unacceptable, and I was not going to just sit there and take it. So, yes, I stood up for myself, and I don’t regret it. Because no matter how low on the totem pole you may be or wherever you came from, there’s no need to condescend or to put other people down. And I would not stand down, and nor should I have.”
Murray recently appeared in Antman and the Wasp: Quantumania. He will return in the upcoming sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Liu also appeared in a superhero project this year with Shazam! Fury of the Gods. She will appear in the Dwayne Johnson- Chris Evans-led action adventure film Red One and the action comedy Old Guy with Christoph Waltz.
