Although this particular role catapulted him to stardom, Macfadyen recently expressed that he felt somewhat miscast as Mr. Darcy. In an interview with CBS Mornings, he shared that he didn’t really enjoy portraying the role.
I feel bad saying that. There were moments I had a good time, but I wish I’d enjoyed it more. I wish I was less worried about it.
Stepping into the shoes of the enigmatic and brooding gentleman wasn’t an easy task. However, the actor embodied the character perfectly, making audiences fall in love with him.
However, he felt that he was quite a misfit to play the role. He added, “I just felt a bit miscast. I’m not dishy enough, or I’m not, you know. But it worked out.“
However, he has managed to overcome his insecurities as he feels happy with the fact that he’s renowned for his role.
I think probably the probably the most flattering thing that happens to me now is people say well you Mr. Darcy and it’s a good 20 years later, so I think I can’t be aging that badly.
Playing this role was a challenging task as the actor had to live up to fans’ expectations of correctly portraying the character from Jane Austen’s novel and previous adaptations.

Macfadyen has moved on in his life, adding numerous notable projects under his belt. He is set to appear as Mr. Paradox in the upcoming MCU movie featuring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in the titular roles.
For the unversed, Paradox is a member of the Time Variance Authority (TVA) who plays a significant role in the Merc with a Mouth’s journey to save his universe and his loved ones.
In an interview with MovieFone, the actor reflected on his character arc in the upcoming film, expressing how he felt about working with superhero characters.
I think he’s working with Deadpool and Logan through gritted teeth and weird fascination. He’s a strange man, Mr. Paradox, I think he’s disgruntled in his position within the TVA. He’s a bureaucrat, he’s an office guy, and I think he wishes he had a bit more heft and power, maybe.
The R-rated movie also stars Emma Corrin as Cassandra Nova, Morena Baccarin as Vanessa Carlysle, Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Karan Soni as Dopinder, Aaron Stanford as Pyro, and Dafne Keen as X-23.
Deadpool & Wolverine will be released in theaters on July 26th.
