Kate Winslet proved herself to be one of the most caring souls in Hollywood after she made sure to make her young co-star comfortable during an intimate scene. It was during the filming of the series Mare of Easttown when her co-star Angourie Rice seemed nervous. Winslet who had herself faced situations like these in the past didn’t want the 22-year-old to feel the same.
Mare of Easttown is a well-praised series that focuses on the story of detective Mare Sheehan in a remote town outside Philadelphia. The limited series ran for 7 episodes and was blessed by a number of prestigious awards. In the series, the Titanic star is seen in the lead role of Sheehan while Angourie Rice is seen as her daughter, Siobhan Sheehan.
Kate Winslet helped Angourie Rice in a unique way
There are many instances where actresses don’t feel comfortable in certain scenes. These are mostly the intimate scenes that raise a feeling of awkwardness among them. Kate Winslet could feel her on-screen daughter and the 22-year-old Angourie Rice feel the same on the set of Mare of Easttown.
As the scene in the discussion didn’t have any nudity, there weren’t any intimacy coordinators on set to supervise it. But Winslet knew that even certain dialogues are capable of making the stars uncomfortable.
The scene involved the Spider-Man: No Way Home actress in a kissing scene inside a car. Kate Winslet wanted to stay as close as possible to Angourie Rice and hid herself in the trunk of the car.
“I just got the sense that she was nervous. I said to her, ‘I’m going to be around for this, I’m going to stay, I won’t leave the set’. She said, ‘Thank god Kate, thank you so much!’ I ended up being in the boot of the car. I knew it would make them feel better to have that one person who would be able to put their hand up and say, ‘Actually we need to cut now, is everyone feeling OK?’”
The Oscar-winning actress claimed that at a young age, she also faced inappropriate behavior on the set of Heavenly Creatures. At that moment, there wasn’t anyone to give her mental support but she didn’t want her young co-star to feel any discomfort.

Kate Winslet, who has now developed an image for helping her co-stars, also did something very special to make her Ammonite co-star Saoirse Ronan. The 2020 movie focused on the relationship between two women played by the 47-year-old Winslet and the Lady Bird actress.
The film had several s-x scenes between the two actresses. Both of them were quite frank and felt safe with each other and thus the mother-to-3 planned a unique birthday gift for the 29-year-old Oscar-nominated actress. During a promotional event for the movie, our beloved Rose DeWitt Bukater admitted to scheduling the filming of the primary s-x scene on the birthday of Ronan to make her day more special.
“I just wanted her to have, frankly, a great memory in her film life, regardless of how the scene played out or the movie turned out. I knew that it would be [great] just because of the experience that we would share together. I knew that it would be very equal.”
Kate Winslet has a handful of upcoming projects and is all set to portray war journalist Lee Miller in Lee which will be premiered in this year’s Toronto International Film Festival. Following that she also has the HBO miniseries Regime in 2024 as well as James Cameron’s Avatar 3 in 2025.
