The X-Files Season 11 was a terrible misfire from Fox. The network has had trouble in creating a decent TV show of late. Fox is notoriously known for their cancelation of fan-favorite shows and instead greenlighting average to bad shows. As the network looks to rebuild its legacy, one show’s revival could be the saving grace for Fox in the television industry.

Kiefer Sutherland’s 24 ran for 9 seasons on the network followed by a short-lived spin-off series, 24: Legacy. Sutherland earlier shared the possibility of bringing back counter-terrorist federal agent Jack Bauer in a revival of the show. Fox could currently benefit from bringing back a critically acclaimed show like 24.

Fans can never get over how Fox ruined one of their fan-favorite sci-fi shows on television, The X-Files. The terrible climax episode, My Struggle IV, was just the nail in the coffin for a show that descended in quality throughout the final seasons. However, the problem was not just with the Gillian Anderson-led show.
Fox executives are downright failing to produce a mildly enjoyable show. The mediocre shows come nowhere near the classic shows that the network used to air like the earlier versions of The X-Files, Ally McBeal, Prison Break, and 24. Moreover, Fox has been known to cancel fan-favorite TV shows when they drop in numbers (remember Firefly?).
Some of the shows like Arrested Development, Lucifer, and Brooklyn 99 found new platforms. However, the majority of the shows canceled by Fox were replaced with mediocre drama and comedy shows.
Fans have also complained about the network’s gross mismanagement of schedules (via r/television). The network changed the schedule of several shows quite a few times, resulting in them losing half or more of the regular viewers. The network also messed up the order of releasing the episodes of shows, including Firefly, Almost Human, and Enlisted.
In this sorry state of the network, Kiefer Sutherland‘s interest in reviving the show that rocked primetime television should be taken seriously. 24 was often cited as one of the best shows on TV during its run. The fifth season is often hailed as the most critically acclaimed season among its nine seasons.
What Did Kiefer Sutherland Say About A Potential Revival Of 24?

While breaking down his most iconic characters for GQ, Kiefer Sutherland hinted at a potential return of Jack Bauer to the screen. Sutherland shared that the character’s story is unresolved in 24 and expressed interest in taking on the role once again. He shared that he did not want to definitively answer whether the show would return or not.
However, he shared that if the story made sense to him, he was sure to participate even in a limited capacity. Sutherland shared with GQ:
I miss it. It was an incredible experience. I have learned that you’re just better off not to be definitive about your answer of whether you will do something or not do something. I love playing that character.
I do believe the story is unresolved. If something were to be written that made sense to me and that I thought was going to contribute to the franchise then I would be behind it, even if my participation in that were to be limited.
Fans of 24 cannot wait to see more of the actor, who will next appear in Clint Eastwood’s Juror No. 2 and Sophie Tabet’s Stone Cold Fox. They really hope that Fox can bring back the actor to play Bauer and save the network that is running out of ideas fast.
24 is now available for streaming on Hulu.
