Alan Burnett was an asset that allowed DC to produce some of its best shows. The writer/producer has been a part of a slew of diverse DC projects, ranging from Krypto The Superdog to Batman Beyond, all of which audiences have incredibly well received during their initial runs on various channels.
Speaking with The World’s Finest, the writer/producer opened up about how his experience with such diverse projects (both inside and outside of DC at Warner Bros.). The question in the interview was focused on asking Burnett about how he approached new projects, given the wealth of experience that he has cultivated.
It’s all about diversity for Alan Burnett
Alan Burnett has been a part of a slew of animated films at Warner Brothers, both inside and outside of the DC fold. The producer has been a part of such films as Superman/Shazam: The Return of Balck Adam, All-Star Superman, and Tom & Jerry: The Lost Dragon, among others. Burnett, speaking to The World’s Finest, revealed how he keeps the juices flowing when writing for such diverse projects. He said:
“Everything you do informs what you do next to some extent. But writers need to try new areas to keep the juices flowing. At least that’s how I feel. After Batman Beyond, I absolutely had to get out of the Batcave. Fortunately at Warner Bros. there’s always a wide variety of shows being developed.”
Burnett’s crowning achievement, among the many shows and films that he has developed, is considered to be Batman Beyond, a wholly original take on the Batman franchise. However, Batman Beyond was also a long and winding endeavor, one that Burnett could not wait to get out of.
Batman Beyond remains one of the most popular interpretations of the Batman lore
Alan Burnett is a creative who needs to be working on diverse projects to keep his juices flowing. However much he wanted to get out of the Batcave in the wake of Batman Beyond, it cannot be overstated that the show remains the quintessential adaptation of the Batman mythos, bringing its own flair to the story, as a successor to Batman: The Animated Series and The New Adventures of Batman.
Terry McGinnis was a great addition to the Batman mythology. While working with an older Bruce Wayne, the show was able to explore an alternative version of the DC mythos, giving us older versions of characters like Superman, and reimagining the Joker and his accomplices in unique and interesting ways.
