Since the actor has retired from the role, the franchise will now witness a new face as Bond. Robert Pattinson can be considered for the role since, in a decade-old interview, the actor expressed his desire to work in the James Bond film. However, there was one thing that made him believe that working as Bond could be a bad idea.

In a decade-old interview with The Sun (via Yahoo! Entertainment), when Pattinson was around 26 years old, he expressed his desire to play James Bond when he comes to the age. Since the character of Bond requires a mature actor who is around their 40s, it was a long way for Pattinson to bag the role. The actor himself admitted,

“I’d definitely like to go for Bond, but in more like 20 years. There’d be nothing worse than, like, ‘let’s get a fresh-faced Bond.’ That would be the worst idea in the world. It would be ridiculous to reinvent it as some young posh kid.”

Pattinson also appreciated Daniel Craig’s performance as Bond and insisted that the next Bond should be mature and experienced just like the previous actors who portrayed the role.

Age wasn’t the only criterion for why Pattinson believed that playing the character of Bond was a bad idea, as he also believed that he didn’t have a perfect body back then. During the same interview, the actor said that he is very enthusiastic about portraying Bond, but it’s a far cry for him. Pattinson said,

“I’ve got to make up for 10 years of living like a degenerate. I’ve suddenly become conscious of being unhealthy. You’ve spent every bit of free time since the age of 15 in a pub. And suddenly you’re like, ‘Oh God, I don’t want to be this grey ghost sitting there with a pot belly.’ I’ve got to get it together.”

However, things have changed as today, Pattinson is 37 years old and quite close to his 40s. Moreover, Daniel Craig has now officially retired from playing Bond. Hence, it can be said that Pattinson can be one of the contenders to play James Bond.
